4 Winners Revealed for ICC Awards 2022

The 2022 ICC Awards has revealed the winners for four categories. These categories are the: ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year Award, ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year, ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, and ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.

ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year Award – Marco Jansen (South Africa)

This award is given to the best overall performer in Men’s T20I cricket during the Performance Period. With 36 Test wickets at 19.02, 234 runs at 21.27, two ODI wickets, and one T20I wicket, Marco Jansen was voted the winner of the category.

After a strong Test debut on home soil on Boxing Day in 2021, Jansen turned heads in several test matches and other games he played in 2022. Jansen made four appearances for South Africa across the two white-ball formats, showing early glimpses of his quality. In his only T20I match, he claimed Shreyas Iyer and a pair of wickets in an ODI against Bangladesh.

One of his most memorable performances in the past year was when he bowled against England at The Oval. Jansen finished with 5/35 and claimed Joe Root and Harry Brook when he returned to the bowling crease, before dismissing Ben Foakes for his fifth.

ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year – Renuka Singh (India)

India’s newest fast bowling star Renuka Singh was voted as the winner of the ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year. In the past year, she scored 18 ODI wickets at 14.88 and 22 T20I wickets at 23.95.

There was plenty of interest in the 26-year-old since she started playing for India. In just 29 matches across the two white-ball formats, the right-arm claimed 40 wickets for her country. When India played against Australia for seven T20I series, Singh was an especially formidable opponent. She claimed 17 wickets in 11 matches, at an economy of just 5.21.

At the Commonwealth Games field, she stood out by claiming four wickets and dismissing some of Australia’s top batters.

ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year – Suryakumar Yadav (India)

Known as one of India’s top batters, Suryakumar Yadav was voted the winner of the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year. In 2022, he became just the second batter to make more than 1000 runs in a calendar year in T20Is and ended the year as the highest run-getter, scoring 1164 runs at a ridiculous strike rate of 187.43.

Yadav had plenty of stand-out moments in 2022. One of his best performances was when he recorded three fifties in six innings and averaged nearly 60 during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Another stand-out performance was when he made his maiden T20I hundred with a stunning 117 off 55 balls in Nottingham against England.

In addition to the cited records and accomplishments, Yadav became the top-ranked MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, achieving a career-high 890 rating points.

ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year – Tahlia McGrath (Australia)

Out of the list of nominees for the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, rising star Tahlia McGrath was voted the winner. Mcgrath only made her debut in October 2021 but has left her mark in several matches in the past year.

Mcgrath is the current World No.1 MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I batter and is also a Commonwealth Games gold medalist. At the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, she was voted as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August after amassing 128 runs in five matches, averaging 42.66.

In the multi-format Women’s Ashes series opener in Adelaide, Mcgrath scored her highest T20I score with 91 runs from just 49 balls.

Following the revelation of these winners, it is likely that the rest of the winners for the 2022 ICC Awards will be revealed at the end of the month.
