Usman Khawaja Joins Fox Cricket Commentary Team
Usman Khawaja, the renowned Australian cricket opener, has taken a significant step towards a new career path in the world of media. Following his eventual retirement from cricket, the 36-year-old has joined the commentary team at Fox Cricket, a move that was announced on a Monday morning. Khawaja’s decision arrives after his exceptional performance as the leading run-scorer in the recent Ashes series held in England.
In his forthcoming role with Fox Cricket, Khawaja will delve into analysis during the upcoming Cricket World Cup set to take place in India. Moreover, he is set to make appearances as a commentator throughout the home summer of 2023/24. Khawaja is set to follow in the footsteps of his partner in opening, David Warner. Warner, too, has embraced a full-time position in the Fox Cricket commentary team following his own retirement.
Expressing his enthusiasm about this new chapter, Khawaja revealed,
I love cricket and I love analyzing the game. I have always wanted to stay a part of the game when I finish up playing and commentating just seemed the perfect fit. I‘ve always enjoyed Fox Cricket’s coverage. Fox Sports was the first thing I’d put on in the morning as a kid, so the affiliation with the company was a bit more sentimental for me.
He recalled how it was the first channel he would tune into during his childhood. The sentimental value of being associated with the network added to his eagerness to take on this role. Collaborating with a team of world-class commentators, including his friend David Warner, is a prospect that excites him.
A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances
Discussing his future prospects in Test cricket, Khawaja maintained a pragmatic approach. He expressed his intent to focus on the present rather than get ahead of himself and contemplate distant series.
“You can get ahead of yourself and look to (the 2025/26 Ashes) and think, ‘I can probably get there’, but I don’t want to.”
Khawaja has indicated that he doesn’t have immediate retirement plans. His approach involves evaluating things “one cricket season at a time” before making decisions about his future. His performance in the Ashes series was notably outstanding, solidifying his role as Australia’s standout batsman and earning him the top position on the batting score chart for both teams.
Despite being 36 years old and in the later stages of his career, Khawaja has undergone a significant resurgence recently. This revival reached its pinnacle with his recognition through the prestigious Allan Border Medal.
