Earlier this week, the Bangladesh Women Under-19s Team caused an upset by winning for the first time against Australia. Now, Bangladesh continues its winning streak with a five-wicket victory against the USA. With this win, the team has six points and ranks number one in Group A for the U19 Women’s World Cup.
During the match, Bangladesh restricted the USA to just 103 runs in their allotted 20 overs. While the team stuttered in their chase, Bangladesh came out on top with a total of 104/5.
The United States of America Women Under-19s had won the toss for the match and opted to bat. Out of the five batters who played on the field, Disha Dhingra(20) and Snigdha Paul (26) scored the highest number of runs and provided a combined score of 46 runs.
When Bangladesh had gone to bat, Shorna Akter was the only one to score over 20 runs. Compared to the USA team, they managed to get their total in just 17.3 overs. In addition, skipper Disha Biswas (2/13) and Marufa Akter (1/17) were star bowlers for the team.
Disha Biswas was the one who made Disha Dhingra run out, while Marufa Akter was the one to ensure that the USA ended with a score of 103/4.

This is the Bangladesh Women Under-19s Team’s third win in the tournament. Before playing against the USA, Bangladesh faced the Sri Lanka Women Under-19s Team. Ending with a total of 165/2, Bangladesh had won by 10 runs.
The United States of America Women Under-19s, meanwhile, has lost all three of their matches so far. Their last match was against the Australia Women’s Under-19s Team. It was the 12th match of the tournament, and the USA lost by 9 wickets with 68 balls remaining.
After this latest loss, the American team will be heading into the play-off matches between the fourth-placed teams from the group stage. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will be preparing for the Super Six stage.
This tournament is Bangladesh’s first-ever International Women’s under-19 cricket competition. The squad for the tournament was announced in December 2022, and the team played the opening match on January 14.
Out of all the teams in the tournament, the only other team that has 6 points in the tournament is India.
Initially, the inaugural ICC U19 T20 World Cup was set for January 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament got moved back to December 2021. However, the tournament was postponed for a second time and was moved to January 2023.
On November 13, 2022, the ICC released a Media Release where they announced the hosts for both men’s and women’s U19 events from 2024 to 2027.
Malaysia and Thailand were jointly given the rights to host the 2025 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh and Nepal, on the other hand, will be the ones to host the 2027 event.
The final group matches will be on January 19. These last matches will determine the final teams to compete in the playoffs. The playoff matches will begin on January 20.
