England Wins Its Second T20 World Cup

The MCG played host to the T20 World Cup Finals on Sunday and there was plenty to celebrate for England fans as their team won their second T20 World Cup defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets. It was Ben Stokes who spearheaded the team’s win by scoring a half-century when the team needed it the most.

Having won the coin toss, England chose to bowl first. Sam Curran and Adil Rashid helped the team by picking up five valuable wickets between them and conceding just one boundary. Because of England’s bowlers, Pakistan was restricted to a modest total of 137/8.

Pakistan batters struggled to get going with Babar Azam (32) and Shan Masood (38) recording the most runs for them.

England then turned to chase the 138 runs needed for victory and began well but struggled in the middle overs. At the end of the 15th over, England needed 41 runs to secure victory.

Just as Pakistan felt the game was turning, star bowler Shaheen Afridi was forced to limp off the field as a result of an awkward landing earlier in England’s innings. Afridi was only able to do the first delivery of his third over before he had to leave the field.

In the end, England capitalized on Afridi’s departure with Stokes smashing a four and a six off Iftikhar’s final two deliveries. To top off England winning their second T20 World Cup, Sam Curran was named the ICC Player of the Tournament.
