France faces an unfortunate situation just a day before their World Cup match against Australia. The team’s striker, Karim Benzema, has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a thigh injury.
A day before the opening of the tournament in Qatar, Benzema had to leave training early after sustaining an injury to the “quadriceps of his left thigh.” Following a scan at a hospital in Doha, the French Football Federation confirmed that Benzema would not be playing the World Cup.
This is a huge blow to the reigning world champions. Especially since they have already lost several players including, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante to injury.
“I am extremely sad for Karim who made this World Cup a major goal,” Deschamps stated in an interview, “Despite this new blow for the French team, I have full confidence in my group. We will do everything to meet the huge challenge that awaits us.”
With the loss of Benzema, Les Bleus will likely bring in another player to bolster their attack.
