In an exciting turn of events on the third day of the four-day unofficial Test between Bangladesh ‘A’ and West Indies ‘A’ at the Syhlet International Stadium, Bangladesh ‘A’ staged a remarkable fight back.

After bowling out the West Indies ‘A’ team for 345 runs, Bangladesh ‘A’ found themselves trailing by 108 runs on the first innings. However, they rallied together to reach 274-6 at stumps, taking a lead of 166 runs into the final day of play.

The resurgence of the hosts can be attributed to the impressive performances by Shadlam Islam, Shahadat Hossain, and Irfan Sukkur. Opener Shadlam Islam played a vital role, scoring a well-deserved half-century. His innings of 74 runs set the foundation for Bangladesh ‘A’ to mount a fight back. Despite losing early wickets, Islam’s partnerships with Mohammad Naim (28 runs) and Shahadat Hossain (50 runs) helped steady the innings.

Tour Details

The tour will consist of three One Day Internationals (ODIs) followed by an equal number of Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The Indian women’s team is currently undergoing a rigorous pre-tour high-performance camp at the renowned National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, where they are honing their skills and strategies ahead of the matches.

In an exciting parallel event, an India ‘A’ women’s squad will participate in the Women’s Asia Cup for developing teams in Hong Kong at the same time. This provides an excellent opportunity for young talents to gain valuable exposure and experience against international competition.

Before the Tour

Before the Bangladesh tour, a crucial test match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh will take place in Dhaka from June 14 to 18. Following the test match, Afghanistan will head to India for an undisclosed series, while Bangladesh will observe a break for the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha.

Once the brief hiatus is over, the Indian women’s team will resume their tour of Bangladesh in the white-ball leg, starting with three ODIs in Chattogram from July 5. The series will then move to Sylhet, where two T20Is will be played. However, the exact schedule for the women’s matches, particularly the T20Is, is yet to be determined due to the overlapping schedule with the India-Bangladesh women’s series.

Other Upcoming Matches

The absence of a permanent head coach since Ramesh Powar’s departure in December 2022 has not dampened the spirits of the Indian women’s team. Their impressive performances in recent tournaments, including reaching the T20 World Cup semifinals, have showcased their determination and resilience. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively seeking a suitable candidate to take over the role of head coach.

Looking ahead, the domestic women’s cricket season promises to be an action-packed affair. The Senior Women’s T20 Trophy is scheduled to commence from October 19 to November 9, 2023, followed by the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Trophy from November 24 to December 4, 2023. The new year will kick off with the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy, starting on January 4 and culminating with a grand final on January 26, 2024.

These domestic tournaments will provide a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills and stake their claim for higher honors.
Cricket fans across the nation eagerly anticipate the upcoming tour of the Indian women’s cricket team to Bangladesh.

As the players prepare to don the national colors once again, hopes are high for an exhilarating display of skill, determination, and teamwork. The team aims to carry forward their recent successes and continue making their mark on the international stage.
