Indian Bowlers Prepare for WTC Final
The Indian cricket team is leaving no stone unturned in their preparations for the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval on June 7. With the players coming off an extensive run in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the team management is focusing on building the workload for the bowlers to ensure they are in prime condition for the crucial match.
In the bowling department, several players such as Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Akshar Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, and Umesh Yadav were part of the first batch to travel to England. However, the departure of pace spearhead Mohammad Shami was delayed due to the IPL final being moved to the reserve day after incessant rain in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, captain Virat Kohli and the experienced middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara joined the camp on Monday, having been busy with their respective County Championship commitments.
The Indian team is set to have a few practice sessions at the picturesque Arundel Castle Cricket Club in Sussex before the much-anticipated final. The team’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, expressed his satisfaction with the preparations so far, emphasizing the importance of gradually increasing the workload for the bowlers. He also praised the conditions at the ground, stating that it is what one can expect while playing in England.
India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, highlighted the focus on close-in catching during the training sessions. With the players coming straight from the IPL, where they worked on their running and ground fielding, the emphasis now is on enhancing the volume of catching, especially in areas such as slip catching and flat catches. Dilip acknowledged the significance of these catches and emphasized the need to increase their volume.
Mhambrey mentioned that while the bowlers will have some rest in the days leading up to the final, the team is determined to make the most of the remaining training sessions. They have two more sessions planned, with the aim of pushing the bowlers to extract the maximum benefit. On the day before the Test match, the team will have a lighter session, providing an opportunity for the bowlers to rest and recover.
India’s batting coach, Vikram Rathour, stressed the importance of adapting to the longest format of the game. Despite the players’ extensive experience, the focus remains on getting acclimated to playing with the red ball and getting valuable practice sessions in. This adjustment is crucial as it allows the players to fine-tune their techniques and mindset for the challenges of Test cricket.
With the World Test Championship final fast approaching, the Indian cricket team is leaving no room for complacency. The players are working hard to overcome any fatigue from the IPL and are fully committed to giving their best in the prestigious final. The coaching staff is carefully managing the workload of the bowlers while also ensuring that the batsmen adapt seamlessly to the demands of Test cricket. The team’s meticulous preparation, combined with their talent and determination, sets the stage for an enthralling clash against Australia as they aim to claim the coveted Test championship title.
