Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan Star in T20I Match

Bangladesh put on a dominant display to clinch the three-match T20I series against Ireland with a 77-run win in the second match at Chittagong. Led by opener Litton Das’ blistering knock of 83 off 41 balls and thanks to a score of 44 off 23 balls by Rony Talukdar, Bangladesh posted a mammoth total of 202-3 in a rain-reduced 17 overs.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling won the toss and elected to bowl, but his decision backfired as the Bangladesh openers dominated the proceedings from the beginning.

Although Curtis Campher scored a valiant 50, it was not enough as Ireland was restricted to 125-9.

The visitors were never in the contest after Taskin Ahmed claimed a wicket off the first ball of the innings. Bangladesh also won the preceding three-match ODI series 2-0 against Ireland.

Records Achieved by Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s opening pair of Litton Das and Rony Talukdar shared a 124-run partnership, the highest-ever for Bangladesh in a T20I.

Shakib Al Hasan, the legendary all-rounder of Bangladesh, then made history by becoming the leading wicket-taker in T20 internationals.

He claimed five wickets for 22 runs and surpassed New Zealand’s Tim Southee’s record of 134 wickets. Shakib’s spell restricted Ireland to 125-9, and they never looked in the contest, with Curtis Campher top-scoring for them with 50 runs.

Liton Das set a new record for the quickest T20 fifty for Bangladesh by reaching his half-century off just 18 balls. He surpassed Mohammad Ashraful’s record of a 20-ball half-century against the West Indies in 2007.

However, leg-spinner Ben White gave Ireland their first breakthrough by dismissing Rony, and he also dismissed Liton in his next over before finishing with 2-28. Nevertheless, Shakib and Towhid Hridoy’s partnership of 61 runs for the fourth wicket helped Bangladesh put on a big total.

With this victory, Bangladesh continued their dominance over Ireland in the series, having also won the preceding three-match ODI series 2-0.

Post Match Statements

Bangladesh’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, is confident his team is on the right track to becoming a great side in T20 cricket.

Previously, Bangladesh was considered a vulnerable team in this format, but things have changed dynamically after they whitewashed England in a three-match series and then went on to win another series against Ireland.

After their tremendous victory, Shakib said their only target is to whitewash Ireland, but he urged his team not to be complacent. He stated that a good team always tries to win 3-0, and they will try to do the same. Although they might try a few new players, they will be just as hungry to do well.

On the other hand, Ireland’s stand-in captain, Paul Stirling, admitted that they didn’t expect the game to be so one-sided, but they will come back stronger. He said that they have a lot to work on, and they will have to think about their team selection for the next game.

The third and final T20I will be played at the same venue on Friday. Bangladesh will look to maintain its winning momentum, while Ireland will aim to salvage some pride with a consolation victory.

Deliberations so Far

With the Capitals’ top three players set to be David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Mitchell Marsh, Salt may likely struggle to fit into his preferred position, which could play to Sarfaraz’s advantage.

The Capitals are also expecting the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) to possibly release Mustafizur Rahman before their first game on April 1. The Ireland T20 series ends on April 1. After that, there is a one-off Test match, but Mustafizur quit the traditional format to prolong his white-ball career.

With the impact player rule coming into play, the Delhi Capitals can use it in many ways to fill the void left by Pant’s absence. The team is expected to make a final decision on Porel and Khan’s roles in the practice games ahead of the IPL 2023 season.

Overall, Delhi Capitals’ fans can be assured that the team is working hard to make sure they have the best possible squad for the upcoming IPL season.
