Litton Das to Captain Bangladesh in Test
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-player squad for the upcoming one-off Test match against Afghanistan. Litton Das, the experienced keeper-batter, has been appointed as the captain in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently sidelined due to a finger injury sustained during an ODI against Ireland. The match is scheduled to take place in Mirpur, starting on June 14.
This will be Litton Das’ first time leading the Bangladesh team in a Test match. Although he has captained the side in four white-ball matches, including three ODIs against India in late 2022, he is yet to showcase his leadership skills in the longest format of the game. With a strong track record in Tests, having played 38 matches and amassing 2319 runs, including three centuries, Das will be eager to make his mark as a captain and guide his team to victory.
The squad also includes the return of tearaway quick Taskin Ahmed, who has recovered from a side strain that kept him out of Bangladesh’s previous Test against Ireland in April and the subsequent ODI series in May. Taskin’s presence will bolster the team’s fast bowling attack and add depth to their bowling options.
Zakir Hasan, who made his debut against India in December last year but missed the Test match against Ireland due to a thumb injury, has been included in the squad once again. This provides Zakir with another opportunity to showcase his talent and contribute to the team’s success.
In an exciting development, the 15-player squad also features two promising young talents – Shahadat Hossain and Musfik Hasan. Shahadat, a 21-year-old right-handed middle-order batter, has already impressed with his performances in first-class cricket, accumulating 1265 runs in 20 matches, including two centuries. He was also a part of the Bangladesh U19 Cricket World Cup winning team in 2020. Musfik, on the other hand, is a 20-year-old fast bowler who has displayed his potential by taking 49 wickets in just 13 matches. Both youngsters recently showcased their skills in an unofficial Test series against West Indies A while representing the Bangladesh A side.
The inclusion of these young players demonstrates the team management’s intent to groom and develop talented individuals for the future. Their presence in the squad provides them with an excellent opportunity to learn from the experienced campaigners and gain valuable exposure at the international level.
The one-off Test match against Afghanistan in Mirpur will not only be an exciting contest but also the beginning of a series of matches between the two teams. Following the Test, Afghanistan will return to Bangladesh in July for three ODIs and two T20Is, providing fans with a feast of cricketing action.
The Bangladesh squad for the one-off Test comprises a blend of experienced campaigners and promising young talents. Alongside Litton Das, the squad includes renowned players such as Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, and Mushfiqur Rahim, who have been pillars of the Bangladesh team for years. With the addition of the returning Taskin Ahmed and the promising youngsters Shahadat Hossain and Musfik Hasan, the team appears to have a balanced and formidable lineup.
The fans and cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the clash between Bangladesh and Afghanistan. It will be fascinating to see how Litton Das leads the team and how the young players perform on the international stage. The match promises to be a thrilling contest, and both teams will be determined to give their best and secure victory.
Overall, with the announcement of the squad for the upcoming Test match, the Bangladesh Cricket Team has displayed its commitment to building a strong and competitive side. The inclusion of youngsters reflects the board’s vision to develop talented individuals and ensure a bright future for Bangladesh cricket. As the match approaches, fans will be eagerly counting down the days, eagerly anticipating the start of an enthralling encounter between two passionate cricketing nations.
