While many teams have played their first match, some fan favourites have yet to play. This includes Brazil who take on Serbia, Portugal who take on Ghana and Uruguay who play South Korea. The other game on Day 4 is Switzerland versus Cameroon.
With Brazil being number one in the FIFA Men’s Ranking and a fan favourite, expectations are high for this team. Serbia on the other hand, have a poor World Cup record having lost seven of their nine World Cup matches in total. However, they do have a 15-game unbeaten run across all competitions, winning each of their last seven in the process by an aggregate score of 26-2. Brazil has won both of their previous two meetings against Serbia without conceding.
Two time World Cup winner, Uruguay also play their first match on Day 4 against South Korea. The team is in excellent form since new manager Diego Alonso took over from Oscar Tabarez and will look to win their opening game.
Aside from Brazil and Uruguay, Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo play their opening match against Ghana. With this being Ronaldo’s last World Cup, he will hope to carry Portugal to World Cup success.
Day 4 opens with Switzerland playing Cameroon in what seems like an even encounter. The Swiss have not been defeated in World Cup openers since 1966 and will look to continue that fine form.
With Argentina’s and Germany’s losses, Brazil will need to avoid being complacent and future strengthen their fan favourite expectations.
