Afghanistan cricket fans have reason to rejoice as their star spinner, Rashid Khan, returns to the squad for the upcoming white-ball matches against Bangladesh. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a formidable 19-strong squad for the three One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Bangladesh, with Rashid’s inclusion boosting the team’s morale.

Rashid Khan was absent from Afghanistan’s recent one-off Test match against Bangladesh, where they suffered a crushing 546-run defeat in Mirpur. The decision to rest Rashid after his stint in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 was made by the ACB to ensure his well-being and longevity in the sport. Now, with a rejuvenated Rashid back in the mix, Afghanistan hopes to turn the tide in their favor in the upcoming limited-overs series, set to kick off on July 5 in Chittagong.

ACB’s chief selector, Asadullah Khan, expressed his satisfaction with the squad’s overall fitness and the return of key players, including Rashid. He stated, “It’s very good news that everybody is in and everybody is back regarding their fitness and regarding their role in the team, and we are quite happy for that.” The team’s confidence is high, and they believe they have the necessary firepower to pose a formidable challenge to the Bangladesh side.

Joining Rashid Khan in the squad are five uncapped players who have earned their place through their impressive performances. Zia Akbar, Izharulhaq Naveed, Wafadar Momand, Abdur Rahman, and Saleem Shafi have all been included in the squad, showcasing the ACB’s commitment to nurturing young talent. These budding players have a chance to prove their mettle and contribute to Afghanistan’s success against Bangladesh.

Notably absent from the squad is the rising star Noor Ahmad, who garnered attention for his stellar performances alongside Rashid Khan in the Indian Premier League. The selectors clarified that while Noor Ahmad has displayed exceptional skills in the T20 format, he is yet to establish himself in the pecking order for ODIs. However, they hinted at his potential inclusion in the T20 International matches that will follow the ODI series. Asadullah explained, “Right now he (Noor) is very good in T20. Naveed Izhar will be in the one-day and he will back Rashid and Mujeeb (Ur Rahman), while in the T20 we should have somebody who has confidence. The format is totally changed, and the mindset is totally changed, and I don’t want to mess it up.”

The stage is set for an enthralling three-match ODI encounter between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, with the matches being closely followed by a two-match T20I series. Afghanistan’s return to full strength, with the comeback of Rashid Khan, instills hope and excitement in their supporters. The team is determined to display their skills, unleash their potential, and achieve success against a strong Bangladesh side.

The upcoming series promises captivating cricket action, showcasing the prowess of Afghanistan’s players and their relentless pursuit of victory. Fans eagerly await the battles on the field as two cricketing nations prepare to lock horns, hoping to witness stellar performances, nail-biting finishes, and moments that will etch themselves into the annals of cricketing history.
