The Bangladesh national cricket team is getting ready to head to Sylhet for a three-day practice camp, but the availability of their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan remains uncertain. Shakib, who is expected to join the team in England next month, may or may not be present at the camp, leaving the situation up to assumptions.

Along with Shakib, opener Liton Das and left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman will also miss the camp due to their ongoing commitments in the Indian Premier League.

The Tigers are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Ireland in England as part of the ICC ODI Super League, and it is expected that Shakib will join the team in London. However, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury has stated that he is not entirely certain whether Shakib will be at the camp in Sylhet.

Statements on Shakib’s Absence

BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus has also expressed uncertainty about Shakib’s availability. Although the camp had been scheduled, he is unaware of whether Shakib will be present in an official capacity. According to local media reports, Shakib may be traveling to the USA. When asked whether Shakib had requested permission to skip the camp, Jalal replied that he had not.

Despite Shakib’s possible absence, the rest of the team is ready to go and available for the ODI series. Bangladesh has been examining the conditions in Sylhet to replicate those that they will face in England, and the team will travel to England from Dhaka following the completion of the camp in Sylhet.

Last Performance Report in Shakib

Shakib Al Hasan has been in amazing form in recent months. He played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s 50-run win against England, scoring 75 off 70 balls and taking four wickets in the third ODI, winning the Player of the Match award. In the T20I series against England, Shakib claimed three wickets in as many games as Bangladesh secured a historic 3-0 series sweep against the reigning world champions.

Shakib continued his excellent form against Ireland, scoring 93 runs in the first ODI and taking five wickets in the second T20I while contributing an unbeaten 24-ball 38. The all-rounder finished the month of March with 353 runs and 15 wickets in 12 matches.

Recently, Shakib received the Player of the Month award. Upon receiving the award, Shakib expressed his gratitude and credited his team’s performances and teamwork for his ability to concentrate on his role and contribute effectively.

Bangladesh Team Status

It is important to note that while Shakib’s absence would certainly be a blow for the team, Bangladesh has a strong ODI side led by Tamim Iqbal. The team is undoubtedly focused and determined to perform well in the upcoming series, regardless of who is present at the Sylhet camp.

The camp was planned to prepare the team on wickets similar to those in England, where the ODI series will take place. However, head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and Mushfiqur Rahim spent a busy day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday instead of traveling to Sylhet. Mushfiq was seen batting on a granite wicket in the academy nets, while Hathurusingha held meetings with members of the BCB medical team and cricket operations department.

Bangladesh has already qualified for the next ICC World Cup, but a 3-0 win for the hosts against the Tigers will ensure that they also qualify directly for the global event. The team will depart for England on May 1 to participate in the ODI series, scheduled to take place on May 9, 12, and 14.
