Shubman Gill Achieves Maiden IPL Century
Shubman Gill, the young batting sensation of the Gujarat Titans, finally achieved a long-awaited milestone in his IPL career. Gill, known for his love of playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium, reached the 500-run mark in IPL 2023 for the first time. Moreover, he became the only player in the history of the Gujarat Titans to cross the 1000-run mark.
The 21-year-old Gill’s century adds to his growing list of achievements across various formats of the game, as he has now scored centuries in Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and the IPL. This remarkable feat places him in an elite group of players who have achieved such success across different formats.
In a home game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gill displayed his exceptional batting skills and accomplished what had eluded him for so long. Having scored four fifties, all in Ahmedabad, out of the 12 matches he played in the season, Gill had been eyeing a century.
He came close to achieving it previously, falling just six runs short with a score of 94 against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 7. However, on Monday, his perseverance paid off as he smashed his maiden IPL century off just 56 deliveries.

The match against SRH began with a setback for the Gujarat Titans as opener Wriddhiman Saha fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling in the very first over, leaving the Titans reeling. Nevertheless, Gill quickly regained control of the situation, tearing through the powerplay and piling on 36 runs off a mere 16 balls. His outstanding performance included four consecutive boundaries against Fazalhaq Farooqi.
Partnering with Sai Sudharsan, who played a vital role in stabilizing the innings until the halfway mark, Gill forged a magnificent 100-run partnership. During this remarkable journey, Gill secured his fourth fifty-plus knock of the season in just 22 balls.
Furthermore, he surpassed the 500-run mark in IPL 2023 for the first time in his career, adding to his previous season totals of 440, 478, and 483 runs in 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively. This outstanding achievement also marked Gill as the only player to reach 1000 runs for the Gujarat Titans.
Gill’s century came off 56 balls, making him the sixth player in IPL 2023 to achieve this milestone. He joined the ranks of Suryakumar Yadav, Venkatesh Iyer, Harry Brook, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Prabhsimran Singh, all of whom celebrated their maiden IPL centuries in this season.
In addition to his achievement, Gill also set a record for the most runs scored by a batsman at a single venue in IPL 2023. With his century, he completed 400 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, surpassing Devon Conway’s 350 runs in seven innings at the Chepauk, the second-best performance.
Shubman Gill’s outstanding performance not only secured a remarkable victory for the Gujarat Titans but also showcased his immense potential as a cricketer.
