Sussex’s fast bowler, Steven Finn, who has been struggling with a knee injury recently, has officially announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Finn’s cricket journey spanned 17 years, during which he played a pivotal role in domestic and international arenas.

Finn, renowned for his exceptional pace and skill, represented England in 126 matches across different formats from 2010 to 2017. During this period, he displayed his prowess by capturing 254 wickets. His contributions to Test cricket were particularly noteworthy, where he secured 125 wickets in 36 matches. One of his standout performances came in the 2015 Ashes against Australia at Edgbaston, where he clinched figures of 6-79. Finn’s impact also extended to white-ball cricket, with 129 wickets in 90 white-ball internationals.

His involvement in Ashes further highlights Finn’s significance in England’s cricketing history triumphs both at home in 2013 and 2015 and in Australia during the 2010/11 series – a feat that saw England clinch the Ashes on Australian soil for the first time since 1986/87. Finn achieved impressive rankings during his career. He reached as high as number two in the ICC ODI bowling rankings and secured fifth place in the T20 international rankings.

Finn’s domestic journey began with Middlesex and spent 17 years at Lord’s. His contributions culminated in winning the County Championship in 2016. Ahead of the 2022 season, Finn transitioned to Sussex, marking a new chapter in his cricketing voyage. He recently played his final match for Sussex against Durham in the One-Day Cup.
In his retirement statement, Finn expressed gratitude and reflected on his cricketing journey.
