Stunning Stoinis Half-Century Helps Australia to Victory

Marcus Stoinis hit the fastest half-century by an Australian in T20I cricket. Not only did the player hit a new record, but he spearheaded the win against Sri Lanka.

The player reached this record in just 17 balls. With this move, he managed to beat Australia’s previous record holder, Glenn Maxwell by one ball. Aside from Stoinis, there were only four other players from Test-playing nations that have scored quicker T20I fifties. They are England’s Moeen Ali, West Indies’ Shai Hope, New Zealand’s Colin Munro and India’s Yuvraj Singh.

In addition to hitting a record for the T20I, Stoinis is now joint-second with Netherlands’ Stephan Myburgh on the all-time list for fastest fifties at a Men’s T20 World Cup. When Stoinis collected his ICC Player of the Match award, he stated “Ronnie (coach Andrew McDonald) said if I feel comfortable then have a go at the spinners.”

With strong plays and accomplishments under their belt, Australia are now heavily eyeing a spot at the semi-finals.
