Sylhet Strikers’ Towhid Hridoy Gets Injured in BPL Match

Sylhet Strikers’ in-form batter Towhid Hridoy was a stand-out player in the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) match against the Dhaka Dominators on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the player sustained an injury during the match.

When batting, Towhid played some immense shots and took Sylhet to a big score of 201 runs for 8 in 20 overs. While Towhid was taken to the hospital for treatment, the match continued, and the Strikers won the match by 92 runs. In addition to this, the team made a media release.

It said, “Towhid Hridoy has picked up a penetrating wound while fielding against Dhaka Dominators at SBNCS on Tuesday. The incident happened in 11.2 overs during the Dhaka Dominators chase. Rejaur Raja was the bowler with Dhaka batter Nasir Hossain on strike.”

The media release further stated that the in-form batter was taken out to see a doctor and may require stitches.

So far, it’s reported that Towhid got eight stitches and has been advised to take two weeks of rest. As a result of this, will miss three games in the 14 day rest time. Following this rest period, Hridoy will get five matches provided he makes a full recovery before the playoffs begin on February 12.

At the time of the player’s injury and exit, he had ended at a ninth wicket and the team was at a score of 139 runs.

Before the injury, Towhid stood out in the tournament as a top-scorer with 195 runs from three innings with an average of 65 and a strike rate of 166.67. In addition to this, the 22-year-old batter scored half-centuries every time he entered the field in the tournament. He also became the second Bangladeshi player after Tamim Iqbal to score three consecutive fifties.

Aside from Towhid, Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a half-century that helped boost the team to victory. The Dhaka Dominators, meanwhile, were only able to hit a combined run score of 86-runs as their highest score.

With this recent victory, the Sylhet Strikers have had zero losses in the 2023 BPL. However, with Towhid in recovery, the Strikers will need to work hard to make up for his absence.

Towhid is not the only one to get injured in the game. Dhaka Dominators’ Muktar Ali also got injured during the match and did not come out to bat as Dhaka’s innings ended at the fall of the ninth wicket on 139. Reportedly, the player had injured his right hand, but no update has been given on his status.

Sylhet Strikers’ scores in the ninth edition of the game are a complete flip of their last time in the BPL. In the 2022 BPL, the Strikers lost 4 matches and had one draw. They also ended at the bottom of the rankings with three points. This year, the Strikers are number one in the rankings with 8 points.

The Sylhet Strikers will face the Dhaka Dominators (Minister Group Dhaka) again on January 16, Monday. The Dhaka Dominators, on the other hand, will have their next match on January 14, Saturday against the Chattogram Challengers.
