With the 2023 ICC Women’s World Cup underway, there are plenty of teams and players to root for. While many players and teams have shown great performances in recent matches before the tournament, certain players left a mark in the previous tournament. These female cricketers ended their 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup as the top scorers, and they are:
Alyssa Healy
Alyssa Healy topped the charts in the 2022 World Cup with a total of 509 runs at an average of 56.55. Healy is an Australian cricketer that made her international debut in February 2010. In the 2022 World Cup final against England, she scored 170 runs and achieved one of the most remarkable innings in one-day history.
Recently, Healy missed the Commbank T20I series against Pakistan due to a calf injury sustained during Australia’s recent tour of India. Fortunately, the player has confirmed that she recovered enough to participate in this year’s World Cup.
Natalie Sciver
Another top batter in the 2022 World Cup was Natalia Sciver. She had scored the 2nd best individual batting performance with a total of 148 runs. She is a female cricketer for the English team and the first cricketer for England to take a hat-trick in a Women’s Twenty20 International match.
One of her highest run scores was in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup where she scored 369 runs.
Ashleigh Gardner
While Alyssa Healy topped the charts with her batting skills, Ashleigh Gardner showed the best batting average in the 2022 World Cup. She had scored 96 runs in 7 matches at a striking average of 137.14. Healy, meanwhile, has a striking average of 103.67.
Ashleigh Gardner is an Australian cricketer who plays as a right-handed batter and right-arm off-spinner. She has won three world championships and four national titles with her respective teams, while also gaining numerous individual honors, including the Belinda Clark Award.
Sophie Ecclestone
Sophie Ecclestone took the most wickets in the 202 World Cup with a total of 21 wickets with 1 five-wicket haul. She is a part of the English team, and in 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named her the Emerging Player of the Year. Ecclestone is also a slow left-arm spinner who, according to the ICC, is the top-ranked T20I bowler.
Aside from this, Ecclestone scored 56 international wickets in 2022, the most any woman has ever taken in a calendar year.
Amy Satterthwaite
Among the many bowlers that participated in the 2022 World Cup, Amy Satterthwaite showed the best bowling strike rate at 20.00. She took three wickets in the 2022 tournament and plays as a part of New Zealand’s women’s team.
While she showed an amazing bowling performance in the 2022 World Cup, she is better known for her batting skills. In 2017, she equaled Kumar Sangakkara’s record of four ODI centuries in consecutive innings.
The 2023 ICC Women’s World Cup will be from February 11 to February 26, and the opening match of the tournament will be between South Africa and Sri Lanka.
