Whitecaps FC Details Women’s Day Celebration

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC is gearing up to celebrate International Women’s Day with a Women & Girls in Sports match on March 11th at BC Place.

The club will be hosting a match between rivals FC Dallas, and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained before, during, and after the game.

Fans can watch the game live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV or listen to it on AM730 Radio if they can’t make it to the stadium.

Events to Look Forward To

One of the exciting events to look forward to is the live painting by Carling Jackson – The Athlete Artist. Jackson is a Vancouver native and a professional athlete portrait artist who is recognized for her humanitarian work.

She will be creating a live 5×5 mural pitchside at BC Place in the Asahi Super Dry Landing as the ‘Caps take on FC Dallas.

Another exciting event is the Women’s Soccer Rally hosted by the South Sisters. This event is open to all women, 2SLGBTQIAQ+, and allies, and will feature a conversation on Women & Girls in Sports.

There will be special guests, including Whitecaps FC club reporter Sarita Patel and general manager of women’s soccer Stephanie Labbé, among others.

Club Hosted Activities

The club will also be hosting pre-match clinics for girls between the ages of 8 to 14. The clinics will focus on skill development, healthy choices, and having fun.

Participants will enjoy an hour of playing soccer on the pitch at BC Place under the guidance of Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy coaches and players from the Girls Elite Academy program.

The ‘Caps will also be hosting girls’ soccer teams ages nine to 13 on the pitch at BC Place, including groups from Vancouver Athletic FC, Vancouver United FC, North Shore Girls Soccer Club, North Delta FC, Surrey United SC, and more.

The halftime mini-matches will feature teams from the North Shore Girls Soccer Club, Canada’s largest female-first soccer club.

The South Sisters will lead Saturday’s March to the Match down Robson street to BC Place. The march will depart from Dublin Calling at 12:45 p.m. PT and will also see supporters joining from the Ox Pub on Robson and Granville.

There will also be female-focused food and drink specials, including the Wildeye Czech Pilsner discounted at sections 210 and 234, with $1 off the 12oz and $2 off the 24oz, and the Porky Pine Sandwich featured at Beast Unleashed at Section 210, created by Senior Sous Chef Wendy Young of Sodexo Live!

Event Schedule and Other Details

The in-stadium voice for Saturday’s match will be local PA announcer France Perras. Saturday’s Supporter of the Match will be Santana Brauer of the South Sisters. Aubrey Hirsch will be Kid Captain, and the officiating crew will include Brooke Mayo and Felisha Mariscal as assistant referees.

The Whitecaps FC Women & Girls in Sport logo designed by Kelsie Lee returns. The logo includes the mimosa flower, the official flower for International Women’s Day, symbolizing femininity and strength.

The transgender flag colors, pink, baby blue, and white, represent gender and inclusivity, while the lightning represents a silent, powerful force that strikes unexpectedly. The leopard print and hearts are a nod to Lee’s signature style.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC is committed to celebrating and empowering women in sports, and this event is a testament to their dedication.

With so many activities lined up, the Women & Girls in Sports match promises to be an exciting event, and everyone is invited to be a part of it. Get your tickets today and join the celebration!
