CSK Clears Injury Reports About Dhoni
There has been a lot of buzz around the fitness of Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni ahead of the first game of IPL 2023. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has put an end to all the speculations by confirming that Dhoni is fit and available for selection.
Earlier, there were reports that Dhoni was struggling with a niggle in his left knee and didn’t bat during the practice session. But the CSK CEO has dismissed all such rumors and said that the captain is 100% fit to play.
Back-up Plans
If Dhoni decides to sit out, there are a few options that CSK can explore for the captaincy role. Ben Stokes, who was bought for a whopping sum of Rs 16.25 crore, seems to be the leading contender to take over the team’s charge once Dhoni retires.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad are also in contention, but Stokes seems to be ahead of them.
As far as wicketkeeping goes, Devon Conway and Ambati Rayudu can take over the job. However, Conway is confirmed to open the innings, which means Rayudu might not be included in the playing XI.
Other Worries for the Team
Fans were right to worry about the team as CSK was dealt with another injury blow as left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary was ruled out of the entire season due to injury. Akash Singh has been included in the squad as his replacement.
Also, the team will be without Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana for the first three matches. Gujarat Titans will miss the services of David Miller in the opening game.
Adding to the worries, there are concerns about the weather as well, as it rained on the eve of the match. Fans will be hoping for clear skies on match day.
Comments on Team’s Status
commenting on it. One of them is former Australian cricketer and coach, Tom Moody. According to Moody, injury has weakened CSK’s death bowling and this could be a major challenge when they travel outside Chennai.
CSK’s death bowling is a major concern, as they had let go of Dwayne Bravo, and Mukesh Choudhary has been ruled out of the IPL, while Ben Stokes is recovering from a knee injury. With only three death bowling options remaining, coach Tom Moody feels that captain MS Dhoni will have to make the most of the impact player rule to get the job done.
While CSK is sorted with 12 overs of spin on turning Chepauk conditions, Deepak Chahar is coming back from a long injury layoff and has an economy rate of 10.32 in the back four overs in T20s in the last two years.
IPL 2023 Status
The first game of IPL 2023 is scheduled between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans on Friday (March 31). CSK will play their first home game against Lucknow Super Giants on April 3.
Before the match, the IPL 2023 opening ceremony is also set to take place, with Rashmika Mandanna, Arijit Singh, and Tamannaah Bhatia among the performers.
While there are still worries for the team fans of CSK can breathe a sigh of relief as their charismatic captain MS Dhoni is fit to lead the team in the opening game of the tournament.
