Bangladesh Women Need T20I Win to Stay Alive
Bangladesh women’s cricket team is gearing up for a crucial encounter against India in the second match of the three-match T20I series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. After suffering a heavy defeat in the first game, the Bangladesh Tigresses need T20I win to stay alive in the series.
In the previous match, Bangladesh struggled to set a challenging target for India, managing only 114 for five in their allotted 20 overs. Despite getting off to decent starts, openers Shathi Rani, Shamima Sultana, and No. 3 Sobhana Mostary couldn’t convert their innings into substantial scores. The team’s lack of batting firepower became evident, leading to their defeat by seven wickets.
In light of their performance, the Tigresses’ head coach Hashan Tillakaratne highlighted the importance of rectifying their mistakes. One area of focus is reducing the number of dot balls, as they accumulated a staggering 61 dots in the first game. Tillakaratne emphasized the need to develop, improve, and learn from these shortcomings, and expressed confidence in a strong comeback in the upcoming match.
“We have eaten up 61 dots in the first game which is a big number. Our batting plan is to play 40 dots, so 21 extra is too much. That’s why I said earlier that we need to develop, improve and learn. I am sure we will make a strong comeback tomorrow,” Tillakaratne said.
The selection strategy of the Bangladesh team has been a subject of debate, with experienced players like Fargana Pinky being left out for the series. Murshida Khatun, a top-order batter, also did not find a place in the playing eleven for the first game. Tillakaratne clarified that the doors are not closed for the excluded players, as the team management believes in providing opportunities to promising young talents while maintaining a professional approach.
Acknowledging the challenge of playing against one of the best teams in the world, the former Sri Lankan batter emphasized the need for the team to understand the level of competition they are up against. Despite the setback in the first match, Tillakaratne expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities and their motivation to perform at their best.
“We have a very professional outfit and there’s some good players who are motivated. Yes, we are playing against one of the best teams in the world and we have to understand that,” he said.
The Bangladesh women’s cricket team has been making steady progress in recent years, showcasing their potential on the international stage. They have been working on strengthening their squad, nurturing young talents, and improving their overall performance. While the defeat in the opening game was disappointing, it serves as a learning experience for the players and an opportunity to identify areas that require further development.
The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium is expected to witness an exciting showdown between these two teams, with both sides eager to assert their dominance. The Bangladesh fans will be hoping for a spirited performance from their team, as they rally behind them in their quest for victory.
