He had been seeking a new opportunity after reportedly being unhappy about being replaced as captain of the Delhi team by a younger player. For the upcoming domestic season, Rana will be a part of the UP team.
In the statement, Rana expressed his gratitude to the DDCA for the support, guidance, and opportunities they had provided to him over the years. He also thanked Rohan Jaitley, the chair of DDCA, for his support during Rana’s time with the association.
I have come to this decision after much thought and I’m pleased to announce that I will be joining UPCA for the upcoming domestic season. I am eager to play for UPCA and am excited to work with everyone to achieve new heights.
A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances
Rana had been the captain of the Delhi cricket team until the previous season when he was removed from the position due to poor performance both individually and as a team under his leadership. Yash Dhull was appointed as the new captain. Another player, Dhruv Shorey, also left Delhi cricket for better opportunities elsewhere.
During the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Nitish Rana led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as Shreyas Iyer was unavailable due to injury. Unfortunately, KKR’s performance suffered, and they were eliminated in the league phase. Rana, himself, was disappointed with his batting performance during the tournament. Apart from his IPL performance in 2023, Rana has also made headlines due to his disagreement with the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
The decision for Rana to part ways with the DDCA came amidst an ongoing dispute between him and the state cricket board.
