Mitchell Starc Eyes IPL Return in 2024
Mitchell Starc, who voluntarily took a break from the Indian Premier League (IPL), is now preparing to make a comeback to the tournament in 2024. His last appearance in the IPL was in 2015.
Despite being recognized as one of the premier bowlers of his generation in white-ball cricket, Mitchell Starc opted to stay away from the IPL in previous years. Although he excelled by leading the wicket charts in the last two editions of the ODI World Cup, Starc participated in the IPL only in 2014 and 2015. However, he has now decided to enter the IPL auction with the intention of making a return to the tournament next year.
Over the years, Mitchell Starc has refrained from participating in the IPL to prioritize spending time with his family and ensuring he remains fresh amidst the demanding international cricket schedule. In 2018, he did enter the IPL auction and was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders but had to withdraw due to an injury.
He also skipped the 2019 edition because of the ODI World Cup scheduled at the end of May. This year, with commitments like the World Test Championship Final and the Ashes on the horizon, Starc once again decided to stay away from the IPL.

The 33-year-old cricketer has now set his sights on participating in the IPL as part of his preparation for the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and the USA the following year in June. Starc expressed his intention, saying, “I’m definitely going back in (next) year… Amongst other things, it’s a great lead-up to the T20 World Cup. So a good opportunity to see if anyone’s interested in the IPL, then lead into the T20 World Cup. And it’s somewhat of a quiet winter next year… in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in.”
Mitchell Starc has expressed his aspiration to play 100 Test matches for the Australian cricket team. He has also hinted at uncertainty regarding his future in the One Day International (ODI) format following the T20 World Cup.
Starc explained, “It took me a long time to feel like I was good enough for Test cricket, so I want to really give that the biggest crack I’ve got. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed white-ball cricket, and that’s probably where I got my main opportunities as well. I’d like to be good enough to reach 100 Tests, not just reach 100, but be good enough to be selected for 100 Tests.”
“And then you look at the one-day format, it’s sort of four years in between World Cups, so where do I see myself in that mix? But I’ve got to get to the end of this World Cup first. But we’ve got some superstars coming through. You’ve got your Jhye Richardsons, your Sean Abbotts, your Spencer Johnsons.”
“You’ve got plenty of young guys coming through. (Lance) Morris is going to be a gun. I try not to look too far ahead with anything. Obviously, we want to do well in the World Cup. Then we’ve got five Test matches here in Australia and then I haven’t actually played a Test in New Zealand, so hopefully I’m on that tour and look forward to that challenge as well,” he added.
Final Scores:
Bangladesh 193 in 38.4 overs (Mushfiqur Rahim 64, Shakib Al Hasan 53; Haris Rauf 4-19, Naseem Shah 3-34) lost to Pakistan 194/3 in 39.3 overs (Iman-ul-Haq 78, Mohammad Rizwan 63*; Shoriful Islam 1-24) by 7 wickets
