Coetzee continued his excellent performance, taking crucial wickets by dismissing Carey, Sangha, and finally, Nathan Ellis to secure four wickets in the innings. This meant that Australia’s strong position at 157-2 crumbled, and they were all out for 227, losing eight wickets for just seventy runs. South Africa ultimately won the match by a margin of 111 runs, keeping the series alive as they head to Centurion for the next game.

In the first innings, South Africa posted an imposing total of 338 runs. This was made possible by a century partnership between Temba Bavuma (57) and Quinton de Kock (82) at the beginning and an exceptional second ODI century by Markram. De Kock was dismissed by Travis Head after a solid opening stand, followed by Bavuma’s departure. However, Reeza Hendricks and Markram carried on the momentum, making the most of the strong foundation set by the openers.

Hendricks was run out after a fifty-run partnership with Markram, leading to a slight collapse as Klaasen and Miller struggled with their form. Still, a powerful cameo from Marco Jansen, along with a settled Markram, launched an attack on Australia, allowing South Africa to score 102 runs in the last 10 overs and set a competitive total in this must-win game.

The series now shifts to Supersport Park in Centurion for the fourth ODI, where South Africa aims to level the series before heading to the Wanderers for the fifth ODI – a ground that witnessed an iconic fifth ODI between these two teams over seventeen years ago.
