Afif To Skip GT20 Canada Due to Visa Issues

Afif Hossain, the talented left-handed batter from Bangladesh, had his dreams of playing in the Global T20 Canada dashed due to unfortunate visa issues, despite having secured the much-needed no objection certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). A BCB source revealed that Afif was indeed granted the NOC, but complications with his visa process prevented him from making the journey to Canada for the prestigious tournament.

The Global T20 Canada has been an exciting platform for cricketers from around the world, and Afif was set to prove his skills while representing Surrey Jaguars alongside fellow teammate Litton Das. The Jaguars were in a favorable position, sitting in the top four of the standings, which meant they were still in contention for a playoff spot with just two more games left in the league.

However, fate had different plans for Afif as he could only participate in one match even if he managed to obtain his visa and head to Canada. Realizing this limitation, he made the tough decision not to travel to Canada and miss out on the Global T20 experience altogether.

The scheduled flight for Afif’s departure was on July 30, and it was indeed unfortunate that he couldn’t join his team in Canada for the exciting tournament. Nevertheless, he remained undeterred and promptly joined the ongoing fitness camp of the preliminary squad of the Bangladesh national team. The camp presented an opportunity for Afif to maintain his fitness levels and remain in contention for future international matches.

While Afif missed out on the Global T20 Canada, his teammate Liton Das was actively participating in the tournament, gaining valuable experience and exposure. Additionally, Bangladesh cricket stalwart Shakib Al Hasan had also featured in the tournament before moving on to participate in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in Sri Lanka. Notably, young talents Shoriful Islam and Towhid Hridoy were also keeping busy by showcasing their cricketing skills in this year’s Lankan Premier League.

Back home, the preliminary team, which had assembled for a fitness camp at Mirpur, was preparing to undergo the Yo-Yo Test during the same week. The fitness assessment would play a crucial role in the selection committee’s decision-making process, as they would subsequently finalize the team for upcoming international fixtures, narrowing it down to either 20 or 15 members.

The Global T20 Canada, an exhilarating tournament for cricket fans, was scheduled to conclude on August 6. Afif had received leave until the 8th, with the initial plan being that he would join the national team camp after returning from Canada. However, circumstances had changed, and with Afif not being able to participate in the tournament’s entirety, he arrived at the BCB headquarters on Tuesday to undergo a medical test.

Despite the setbacks, Afif remained optimistic about his future prospects and continued to work hard to improve his game. As a promising talent, he had earned recognition in domestic and international cricket, and his commitment to the sport was unwavering.
