Ambati Rayudu, the seasoned IPL campaigner, has announced his retirement from the prestigious tournament. In a tweet shared on Sunday, Rayudu confirmed that the IPL 2023 final, which will witness the clash between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, would mark his final appearance in the tournament. He emphasized that there would be no turning back on his decision this time.

Additionally, in his tweet, Rayudu reminisced about the journey he had undertaken in the IPL, acknowledging the fierce rivalry between CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI). He mentioned that he had played a total of 204 matches, spanning 14 seasons, with 11 playoff appearances, 8 final appearances, and 5 championship victories. He expressed his hope for a 6th title win for his team in the upcoming final and thanked his fans for their support throughout his IPL career.

This is not the first instance where Rayudu has expressed uncertainty about his future in the game. Last year, he had taken to Twitter to declare that IPL 2022 would be his last season. However, following intervention from the CSK management, he deleted the post, leaving his retirement plans hanging in the balance.

The talented cricketer had previously shocked the cricketing world in 2019 when he announced his retirement from all forms of the game after being overlooked for the 2019 ODI World Cup. Yet, Rayudu eventually made a comeback to domestic and IPL cricket.

Having been an integral part of the CSK squad since 2018, Rayudu’s retirement will leave a void in the team’s lineup. Before joining CSK, he had represented the Mumbai Indians from 2010 to 2017. In the ongoing season, Rayudu has predominantly played as an impact substitute for CSK, providing stability in the middle order when required.

Regrettably, his personal performances have not been exceptional this year. In 11 innings, Rayudu has managed to score 139 runs at a strike rate of 132.38. However, his gritty knock of 17 runs off just nine deliveries during the Qualifier 1 in Chennai played a pivotal role in propelling CSK to the final, even in challenging conditions.

Ambati Rayudu’s retirement marks the end of an illustrious IPL career. He stands among the top ten most experienced IPL cricketers, having played in a total of 203 matches. With 4329 runs under his belt, including 22 half-centuries and a century, Rayudu has etched his name in IPL history. His sole century was achieved against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018.

Rayudu’s success in the IPL is commendable, boasting an impressive tally of five IPL titles. He secured three championships with the Mumbai Indians in 2013, 2015, and 2017 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

After joining CSK, he continued his winning streak, contributing to their victories in 2018 and 2021. If CSK manages to emerge victorious in the final showdown, Rayudu will equal Rohit Sharma’s record of six IPL titles.
Despite the ups and downs in his career, Ambati Rayudu has left an indelible mark on the IPL.

His journey, encompassing several retirements and comebacks, showcases his love for the game and his relentless determination to contribute to his team’s success. As Rayudu bids farewell to the IPL, fans will undoubtedly remember his contributions and his valuable role in shaping the league’s history.
