With the Asia Cup 2023 group stage over and as the fans get excited for the Super Fours, let’s take a look at the player statistics from the group stage.

Most Runs – Najmul Hossain Shanto 193 runs

Shanto has been brilliant in the 2 group stage games that Bangladesh have played averaging 96.50 runs. In the opening game versus Sri Lanka, he recorded 89-runs and hit seven 4’s. He followed up with that with a century (104-runs) against Afghanistan and hit nine 4’s and two 6’s.

However, we will not be seeing Shanto in the Super Fours as he has been hit by a hamstring problem and has withdrawn from the Tigers squad. The country’s cricket board made that decision in hope that Shanto can work on his rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming Cricket World Cup which takes place next month.

A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances

Most Wickets Taken – Shaheen Shah Afridi 6 wickets

The 23-year-old Pakistani bowler has taken 6 wickets in the 2 games that Pakistan have played thus far. In the opening game versus Nepal, the Pakistani bowlers combined to bowl Nepal out by the 23rd over. Afridi only bowled 5 overs but in his 1st over, he successfully bowled out both the opening batsmen from the Nepali team.

Such is his form that in the next game versus India, he took 4 wickets. In the 4th over he bowled out India’s captain Rohit Sharma and followed that up by taking out Virat Kohli in the 6th over. As India’s batters started to get momentum, in stepped Afridi in the 43rd over and he bowled out both Hardik Pandiya and Ravindra Jadeja. The match ended in no result as the rain stopped the match but we can be assured that Afridi is ready for more wickets in the Super Fours.

Best Batting Strike Rate – Mohammad Nabi 178.94

Afghanistan bowed out of the Asia Cup but with their heads held high. They pushed Sri Lanka to the brink of elimination but fell 2-runs short. One of the key reasons for Afghanistan’s performance was the batting of Mohammad Nabi.

The 38-year-old all-rounder who happens to be the oldest player in the competition hit a remarkable 65-runs from 32 balls to become the fastest Afghan to hit half a century in the ODI format. Although the Afghans fell short, fans all around the world will be eager to see Nabi in the ODI World Cup in India next month.

Best Bowling Economy Rate – Kuldeep Yadav

The 28-year-old bowler from Uttar Pradesh bowled an economy rate of 3.40 in the group stage game against Nepal. He bowled 10 overs and conceded 34 runs to give him that economy rate. He also bowled 2 maidens. India will continue to rely on him in the upcoming Super Four game against Pakistan on September 10th.

Other notable stats from the group stage sees Shanto recording the most number of 4’s with a total of 16 across 2 games. India’s captain Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Nabi have recorded the most number of 6’s with 5 apiece.

Fans are definitely looking forward to the Super Fours and hoping that their team reigns supreme.
