Cricket is set to make its return to the upcoming Asian Games, marking its comeback after an absence of eight years since it was last included in 2014 in Incheon, South Korea. The tournament will feature 14 men’s teams and eight women’s teams, competing in their respective categories for the prestigious gold medal.

The men’s event, scheduled to be played in the T20 format, will take place from September 27 to October 8. The women’s version of the tournament, also in the T20 format, will be held from September 19 to 25. All matches will be hosted at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have already secured spots in the quarter-finals based on their ICC T20I Rankings as of June 1, 2023.

Afghanistan, recognized as an ICC Full Member, will only participate in the men’s event. A victory against Mongolia will secure a top-eight position for them. After cricket’s debut in the 2010 edition held in Guangzhou, China, the sport was included in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, featuring both men’s and women’s categories. However, the 2018 Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, the previous edition of the Asian Games, did not include cricket.

In the Incheon Games, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka clinched medals in the women’s event, while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh secured medals in the men’s event.
