Afif Hossain and Ebadot Hossain have made a triumphant return to the Bangladesh cricket team as they gear up for the highly anticipated T20I series against Afghanistan. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad on Sunday, revealing the inclusion of these talented players in the upcoming series.

Afif Hossain, who has already made a name for himself in the cricketing world, was not only selected for the T20I squad but also found a place in the ODI squad for the series against Afghanistan. His inclusion comes as no surprise, given his impressive track record. With 62 T20Is under his belt, Afif has showcased his batting prowess by amassing a total of 1020 runs. His presence in the team adds depth to the batting lineup and brings a wealth of experience to the squad.

On the other hand, Ebadot Hossain, a relatively new face in the T20I format, made his debut during the Asia Cup in 2022. Since then, he has shown great promise, having claimed seven wickets in just four T20Is. Notably, Ebadot’s exceptional performance in the recent one-off Test against Afghanistan, where he took 4-47, further solidified his selection for the T20I series. The Bangladesh team will undoubtedly benefit from his bowling skills and ability to take crucial wickets.

The Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh kicked off with a historic one-off Test, which saw the hosts secure a resounding victory with a massive margin of 546 runs. This emphatic win set the stage for an exciting series ahead. Following the Test match, both teams will engage in a three-match ODI encounter before culminating the tour with a thrilling three-match T20I series.

Bangladesh’s T20I squad comprises a formidable lineup led by the experienced Shakib Al Hasan as captain. The squad also features Litton Das, Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, and the returning Afif Hossain. This squad combines a perfect blend of seasoned campaigners and promising young talents, ready to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan has also announced their ODI squad for the series against Bangladesh, with star spinner Rashid Khan making his much-awaited return after being rested for the one-off Test. Notably, the squad features several new faces, including the leg-spinner Izharulhaq Naveed, who impressed during Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL). Additionally, Shahidullah, Zia-ur-Rehman, Wafadar Momand, Mohammad Saleem, and Sayed Shirzad are among the fresh names in the squad. These players have only made three ODI appearances collectively, reflecting Afghanistan’s desire to experiment with new talent in preparation for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup scheduled to be held in India later this year.

Furthermore, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has selected ten additional players as reserves for the forthcoming ODIs and the World Cup. This comprehensive list of reserves includes Karim Janat, Gulbadin Naib, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Darwish Rasooli, among others. This strategic move aims to ensure that Afghanistan has a strong backup plan in place to cope with any unforeseen circumstances and maintain their competitive edge throughout the tour.
