Bangladesh has made some bold moves ahead of the upcoming T20 international series against England by calling up three uncapped cricketers for the first two matches.
The squad features batsman Towhid Hridoy, pace bowler Rejaur Rahman Raja, and left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam, all of whom have been performing exceptionally well in the recently held Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The team has also seen the return of batsmen Shamim Hossain and Rony Talukdar, who have been in impressive form in the BPL. Shamim last played for Bangladesh in a T20 international match against Pakistan in 2021, while Rony’s only T20 international was against South Africa eight years ago in 2015.
However, the squad has also seen some notable exclusions. The likes of Yasir Ali, Soumya Sarkar, all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain, and pace bowlers Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam, who were all part of the Bangladesh squad for the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia in November, have been left out this time around.
Bangladesh is currently engaged in a three-match one-day international series against England, and the T20 series will follow the ODI series.
The first match is scheduled at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on March 9, followed by the second and third matches to be held at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on March 12 and March 14, respectively. This series will mark the first bilateral T20 international series between Bangladesh and England.
The young and untested trio of Towhid Hridoy, Rejaur Rahman Raja, and Tanvir Islam are expected to bring fresh energy and enthusiasm to the Bangladesh squad. Their inclusion shows the team management’s willingness to experiment and take risks, which could be a game-changer in the upcoming series. The return of Rony and Shamim adds much-needed depth and experience to the team’s batting order.
While the exclusion of some of the more seasoned players may come as a surprise, it is a testament to the team’s belief in its young talent. The new faces in the squad have been performing exceptionally well in the BPL, and the team is banking on their skills to challenge England in the upcoming series.
With the first T20 match set to take place on March 9, all eyes will be on the young and exciting Bangladesh squad as they look to make their mark against a formidable England team. The upcoming series promises to be a thrilling contest between two highly talented teams, and the inclusion of the young guns in the Bangladesh squad has only added to the excitement.
Fans can’t wait to see how these untested players perform on the big stage, and if they can make a name for themselves in international cricket.
This year, Bangladesh and England are scheduled to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Notably, this will be the first time the two teams will engage in a bilateral T20I series.
Previously, the teams met only once in a T20I match during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. As the T20I series follows the ODI matches, the English players will continue their stay in Bangladesh for the white-ball series until March 6th.
