Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim To Skip India Match
Mushfiqur Rahim won’t be playing in Bangladesh’s Asia Cup Super Four game against India this Friday in Colombo. He has been given more time off by the BCB to be with his family. After the team’s loss to Sri Lanka, the experienced player departed for Dhaka to spend time with his newly born child and his family.
Mushfiqur Rahim welcomed his second child, a baby girl, on September 11, with his wife Jannatul Kifayat. He shared this joyous news through his social media platforms.
“Mushfiqur has informed us that his wife is still recovering [after giving birth], and he needs to be by her side and with their children at this time,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus said in a statement. “We fully understand his situation and have decided to permit him to skip the game.”
Bangladesh has been eliminated from the Asia Cup due to back-to-back losses in the Super Four stage against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The team, led by Shakib Al Hasan, has not earned any points and holds a net run rate of -0.749 in the tournament. Their sole victory in the competition came against Afghanistan in the group stage.
Bangladesh’s chances of reaching the Asia Cup final were extinguished when India defeated Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday. The team that emerges victorious in the Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka match on Thursday will advance to the final, set to take place on Sunday. In the event of a match cancellation, Sri Lanka will progress due to their superior net run rate.

A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances
Bangladesh’s Asia Cup campaign has been disappointing, with their notable performance being a commanding victory over Afghanistan in the group stage. During that match, they posted a formidable total of 334 for 5 while batting first, thanks to centuries from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto. However, they suffered convincing defeats in their other three matches, losing twice to Sri Lanka and once to Pakistan.
Mushfiqur Rahim had been one of Bangladesh’s more consistent batsmen, occupying the third position on the list of top run-scorers for the team. He accumulated 131 runs from four innings at an average of 32.75, with his best performance being the 64-run inning against Pakistan.
In the remaining matches, the wicketkeeper-batsman had promising beginnings but failed to capitalize on them, drawing criticism for being dismissed too easily throughout the tournament. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan also addressed the team’s batting difficulties after they were eliminated from the Asia Cup.
Bangladesh has wicketkeeping options in Litton Das, who returned during the Super Four stage after missing the group stage due to a viral fever. Anamul Haque, who initially replaced Litton, is another candidate for the wicketkeeping role that Bangladesh can consider.
In addition to Mushfiqur Rahim, skipper Shakib Al Hasan was granted a three-day leave to participate in an event in Bangladesh during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the country. The experienced all-rounder is expected to rejoin the team before the match against India on Friday.
