Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to two prominent players, all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das, allowing them to participate in the upcoming Global Twenty20 Canada League. The league, scheduled to be held from July 20 to August 6, will provide an excellent opportunity for these players to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Jalal Younus, the chairman of BCB’s cricket operations committee, confirmed this exciting news to the media, emphasizing that both Shakib and Liton would return to the national team well in advance of the Asia Cup, which is set to commence on August 31. Jalal assured fans that the players’ absence from the national team would not be an issue as they would have ample time to rejoin and prepare for the tournament.

This decision marks the first time in three editions that Bangladeshi players will participate in the Canadian league, signifying the growing recognition of their talent and the increased opportunities they are receiving in various global cricketing events.

Shakib al Hasan, a seasoned campaigner and one of the most accomplished all-rounders in the world, will represent the Montreal Tigers in the Global Twenty20 Canada League. Under the guidance of former Bangladesh head coach Dav Whatmore, Shakib will have the chance to learn from a seasoned mentor and showcase his skills alongside esteemed teammates. The likes of Andre Russell, Chris Lynn, and Carlos Brathwaite, who have made significant contributions to the cricketing world, will join Shakib in representing the Montreal Tigers.

On the other hand, Liton Das, a talented wicketkeeper-batsman known for his aggressive stroke play, will feature for the Surrey Jaguars. Coached by Lalchand Rajput, former head coach of Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, Liton will have the opportunity to learn and grow in a competitive environment. The Surrey Jaguars boast an impressive lineup, including explosive English opener Alex Hales, talented Pakistan batsmen Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Haris, and towering Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff.

In addition to their participation in the Global Twenty20 Canada League, Shakib al Hasan has also confirmed his involvement in the upcoming fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), set to take place from July 31 to August 22. This decision demonstrates Shakib’s eagerness to engage in competitive cricket and further refine his skills. It is worth mentioning that Bangladeshi players Al Amin Hossain and Afif Hossain have previously participated in Sri Lanka’s premier T20 tournament, highlighting the growing collaboration between the two cricketing nations.

BCB director Jalal Younus assured fans that the players’ participation in these tournaments was carefully evaluated, considering factors such as the absence of national team commitments during that time and the importance of gaining valuable match practice ahead of the World Cup. He acknowledged that injuries could be a concern but reiterated that both Shakib and Liton were in good physical condition. While acknowledging the higher risk for pacers to sustain injuries, Jalal emphasized that these two players were not injury-prone and their participation in shorter formats like T20 would not pose significant risks.

The opportunity for Shakib al Hasan and Liton Das to compete in the Global Twenty20 Canada League and the Lanka Premier League signifies the increasing recognition of Bangladeshi cricketers on the global stage. It also highlights the importance of gaining valuable match practice and exposure ahead of major tournaments like the Asia Cup and the World Cup. With their talent, skill, and determination, these players are poised to make significant contributions and represent their country with pride. Fans eagerly await their return and hope for their continued success in these tournaments and beyond.
