BCCI Announces India Women’s Squad
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently made an announcement regarding the Indian Women’s ODI and T20I squad for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh. This tour is set to be an exciting and challenging series for the Indian women’s cricket team. The Women’s Selection Committee carefully selected the squad for the three-match T20I series and the subsequent ODI series against Bangladesh. All six matches will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur.
The Indian Women’s team will be led by the talented Harmanpreet Kaur, who will serve as the captain for both the T20I and ODI formats. Assisting her in her leadership duties will be Smriti Mandhana, who will act as the deputy captain for both formats. This leadership duo brings a wealth of experience and skills to the team and will guide the players through the matches against Bangladesh.
However, it is worth noting that there are some players who were not included in the squad. The absence of senior pacer Shikha Pandey, pacer Renuka Singh Thakur, and batter Richa Ghosh has raised some eyebrows. These players were unable to secure their spots in the squad for this particular series. Additionally, Radha Yadav and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who are experienced spinners, are also missing from the lineup. The Indian team has decided to go with a relatively inexperienced spin attack for this tour.
The tour is scheduled to begin with a three-match T20I series, with the first match set to take place on July 9. Cricket fans can look forward to witnessing some thrilling cricket as the teams battle it out on the field. The second T20I will be played on July 11, followed by the third and final T20I on July 13.
After a brief two-day break, the action will resume with a three-match ODI series starting on July 16. The Indian Women’s team will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in the longer format of the game. The second ODI is scheduled for July 19, and the final match of the series will be played on July 22.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the players who have been selected to represent India in this tour. In the T20I squad, alongside captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, we have Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia (as the wicketkeeper), Harleen Deol, Devika Vaidya, and Uma Chetry (also as a wicketkeeper). These talented players are supported by Amanjot Kaur, S. Meghana, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh, Anjali Sarvani, Monica Patel, Rashi Kanojiya, Anusha Bareddy, and Minnu Mani.
In the ODI squad, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana will lead the team, with the addition of Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Yastika Bhatia (wicketkeeper).
