Afghanistan’s cricket team is gearing up for an exciting bilateral tour of Bangladesh, where they will play all three formats for the first time ever. The tour, scheduled to begin on June 10, promises to be a thrilling spectacle as Afghanistan takes on Bangladesh in a one-off Test, three ODIs, and two T20Is.

Traditionally, Afghanistan’s visits to Bangladesh have focused on either white-ball or red-ball cricket. However, this time around, they will have the opportunity to showcase their skills across all formats. Their previous tour to Bangladesh in 2022 saw them competing in ODIs and T20Is, while their 2019 visit revolved solely around Test cricket.

Since gaining test status, Afghanistan has played six tests, winning three of them. They have secured victories against Ireland, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe. With their growing experience and talent, the Afghan team will aim to build on their previous successes and continue their winning streak.

Tour Details

The upcoming tour will be divided into two parts. Initially, Afghanistan will engage in a one-off Test match held in Dhaka from June 14 to 18.

Following the conclusion of the Test, they will briefly depart for India, where they will participate in a white-ball series. The Afghan team will then make their way back to Bangladesh on July 1 to take part in three ODIs held in Chattogram from July 5 to 11. Finally, the tour will culminate with two T20Is in Sylhet on July 14 and 16.

Last Bangladesh VS Afghanistan Clash

During their last visit to Bangladesh in 2022, Afghanistan faced mixed fortunes. They lost the ODIs 2-1 but managed to draw the T20Is, with the series ending in a 1-1 tie. The Afghan team’s sole Test encounter against Bangladesh took place in 2019.

That year, they defeated the Bangla Tigers by a massive margin of 224 runs in Chattogram. Leg spinner Rashid Khan played a crucial role in the victory, taking 11 wickets across two innings. Rashid Khan’s impressive performances have continued, as he has been shining in the IPL 2023.

Plans Before the Tour

Before their tour of Bangladesh, Afghanistan will also participate in a white-ball series against Sri Lanka. Once they complete their engagements with Sri Lanka, they will travel to India to play a limited-overs series. After this, they will return to Bangladesh to face the hosts in a three-match ODI series and a two-match T20I series in July.

Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi team has returned home to Dhaka after a successful ODI series against Ireland in Chelmsford. With a short break on the horizon, the players will soon shift their focus towards preparations for the upcoming Test against Afghanistan next month.

Conclusion

Fans and cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the clash between these two talented teams. Afghanistan’s consistent rise in international cricket and Bangladesh’s determination to maintain their stronghold at home will undoubtedly create an intense and captivating contest.

As the Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh draws near, cricket enthusiasts can mark their calendars for the action-packed schedule. From the arrival of the Afghan team on June 10 to the final T20I in Sylhet on July 16, this series promises to provide cricket lovers with a thrilling display of skill, sportsmanship, and fierce competition.
