Delhi Capitals Get 2nd Match Win in IPL
In a thrilling match, Delhi Capitals managed to secure back-to-back wins in the Indian Premier League after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by just seven runs. With a total of 144-9, Delhi didn’t start too well but managed to claw their way back into the game.
Sunrisers Hyderabad was chasing a target of 145 runs and needed 13 runs from the final over to win the game. However, Mukesh Kumar bowled an excellent final over, restricting them to 137-6 and sealing the victory for Delhi.
The all-rounder Axar Patel’s heroics with the ball and bat also helped Delhi to victory, trumping Washington Sundar’s superb efforts with the ball and bat for Hyderabad.
This was the first time in 16 seasons that Delhi Capitals successfully defended a first-innings total under 150, restricting Hyderabad to just 137 runs. The win was Delhi’s second in a row after five straight losses, while Hyderabad suffered their third defeat on the trot.
Although the Capitals remain bottom of the table on net run rate, the win will give them some much-needed confidence going forward in the tournament.
Highlights of the Match
The Capitals didn’t start too well, losing their opener Phil Salt for a duck in the very first over. However, their captain David Warner managed to score 21 runs off 20 balls against his former team before falling to Washington Sundar, who claimed three wickets in just five balls.
Manish Pandey and Axar Patel tried to build a partnership to stabilize Delhi’s innings, sharing the highest partnership of the match worth 69 runs off 59 balls. However, Delhi once again collapsed, losing four wickets for just eight runs in 12 balls towards the end of their innings.
In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad started slowly, with England’s Harry Brook managing only seven runs off 14 balls before being bowled by Anrich Nortje. Mayank Agarwal tried to take charge and scored 49 runs off 39 balls, putting Hyderabad on course for victory.
Patel and Manish Pandey saved the day for Delhi, adding 69 runs for the sixth wicket and taking Delhi past the 100-run mark. Patel hit a run-a-ball 34 with four hits to the fence, while Pandey was run out soon after for a 27-ball 34.
Results in the Match
With the game in the balance, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen scored 31 runs off 19 balls before being caught by Nortje, who claimed his second wicket of the game. In the end, Sunrisers needed 13 runs from the final over but failed to find the boundary off Mukesh Kumar, who conceded only five runs to secure the win for Delhi.
With this win, Delhi stayed at the bottom of the points table with four points, while Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who also have four points, remained ahead on net run rate.
Overall, it was an exciting match that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. Delhi Capitals will be hoping to build on this win and climb up the IPL table, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will be looking to bounce back in their next game.
