Ebadot Hossain’s World Cup Fitness Uncertain
Bangladesh’s fast bowler Ebadot Hossain might not be able to play in the upcoming World Cup due to an ongoing struggle with his fitness. The global 50-over tournament is set to take place in India from October 5, but Ebadot’s participation is uncertain as he races against time to recover from a knee injury.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials have shared that they’re thinking about sending Ebadot abroad for another medical opinion on his knee injury. This injury prevented him from taking part in the upcoming Asia Cup because his recovery progress wasn’t as expected, despite rehabilitation efforts.
Kiron Thoms, the newly-appointed Australian physio and rehabilitation manager, might accompany Ebadot to England for a check-up during the first week of the upcoming month.
Ebadot’s knee injury, particularly his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), happened during the ODI series against Afghanistan last month.
An official from BCB mentioned that if Ebadot requires surgery, he is likely to miss the World Cup. The official noted that Ebadot’s condition hasn’t improved as anticipated, making it hard for him to handle the necessary workload. This is a complex situation for the team management, who need to quickly come up with a plan for the significant global event.
A Showcase of Talent: Rohit’s Standout Performances
BCB is looking at all possible solutions considering the World Cup is nearing. They are considering sending Ebadot to consult with an expert abroad who specializes in knee problems. The official emphasized the seriousness of the matter and the board’s dedication to resolving it.
Ebadot has had difficulties managing the workload we provided. He couldn’t cope with the intensity, leading to his exclusion from the Asia Cup squad. While there’s a possibility he might recover with two to three more months, time isn’t on our side. The announcement of the World Cup squad is coming soon, and the coach needs clarity on his condition to plan accordingly.
The official remains hopeful that Ebadot can overcome his problems and be part of the World Cup, but acknowledges the challenges. Ebadot, who has played 12 ODIs for Bangladesh since his debut last year, was replaced by Tanzim Shakib for the Asia Cup.
The BCB is waiting for a report from the physios, expected on Tuesday, before deciding on Ebadot’s Asia Cup participation. He has been undergoing rehabilitation since the start of the Asia Cup camp.
As the World Cup approaches, BCB is likely to prioritize Ebadot’s long-term fitness. While there are four other pacers in the Tigers’ pace unit, the board is considering the option of grooming a new talent. Promising pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who impressed during the recently concluded Emerging Asia Cup, is a potential candidate for this role.
