England Earns Semi-Final Spot by a Narrow Win
England is the 2nd team to make it to the semi-finals. It was a hard chase for the team when Sri Lanka batted first and ended with a 141/8 score with Pathum Nissanka scoring 67-runs. Though England’s bowlers did manage to turn things in the end with Sri Lanka only scoring 23-runs for the final 27 deliveries, the team needed to fight hard to overcome the score.
England’s openers Alex Hales and Jos Buttler helped give a steady start for the team with a combined score of 75-runs. It was a close shave for the team but Ben Stokes managed to help England out with 42-runs. If not for that, the team would have been in trouble after losing several wickets in a short span. In the end, Chris Woakes helped finish the chase and the team won with two deliveries to spare.
With England as the second to land in the semi-finals, all eyes are on the final three matches to decide the final two teams to qualify.
