In the first quarter-final against Malaysia at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, India advanced to the semi-finals of the Asian Games due to a rainout. India was batting first, and Shafali Verma’s half-century helped them reach a total of 173-2 in just 15 overs. Unfortunately, the rain halted play permanently after just two balls into the second innings.

The Indian women’s cricket team has made history by achieving the fastest-ever team score in a T20 innings. This remarkable feat occurred as the team represented India in the 19th edition of the Asian Games 2023 during the Women’s cricket event at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou, China.

In the first quarter-final match of the tournament, which took place on September 21st, Thursday, the Indian women’s cricket team achieved an impressive team score of 173 runs in just 15 overs. The first innings of the game started with the Indian women batting first.

The opening batters, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, played a crucial role in the innings by forming a quick 50-run partnership. Shafali scored 27 runs off 16 deliveries with a strike rate of 168.75, while Smriti Mandhana contributed significantly with 67 runs off 39 deliveries, maintaining a strike rate of 171.79.

Batting at number three, Jemimah Rodrigues played a crucial role in the innings, contributing 47 runs off 29 deliveries for the Indian women’s cricket team. Shefali Verma’s explosive performance included 4 fours and 5 sixes, while middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues hit 6 fours, collectively helping the Indian women’s team reach a total score of 173-2.

The match was abruptly abandoned after just two balls were bowled in the first over due to heavy rainfall. This unexpected turn of events worked in favor of the inexperienced Malaysian women’s cricket team, as the rain led to the game’s dismissal. Consequently, the points were shared between the teams, securing a place for the Indian women’s cricket team in the semi-final match of the Asian Games 2023.

The Indian men’s cricket team is actively participating in the Asian Games 2023, and the charge will be led by the promising young opening batsman, Ruturaj Gaikwad. This men’s cricket event will showcase the talents of 15 teams competing for the coveted gold medal. The event is scheduled to kick off on September 27th, with the bronze and gold final matches slated for October 7th, 2023.

It’s worth noting that just a day before these Asian Games, the senior Indian cricket team will face Australia in their first match of the ODI World Cup 2023, which will take place at the M Chidambaram Stadium.
