Jos Buttler Gets Unwanted Duck Record in IPL

Jos Buttler, the explosive opener of Rajasthan Royals, has joined an unfortunate list of players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the most ducks in a single season. With four ducks already in IPL 2023, Buttler has become the seventh player in IPL history to achieve this feat.

Despite scoring 392 runs and being the second-highest run-scorer for the Rajasthan Royals this season, Buttler has also produced a series of low scores. Out of his 13 innings, four have seen him walking back to the dugout without scoring any runs.

Despite his previous success in the tournament, including holding the coveted Orange Cap last season, Buttler’s struggles at the crease have been noticeable. His disappointing form has unfortunately coincided with the Royals’ recent losses.

What Happened in the Match

During Sunday evening’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Buttler failed to score yet again, as the Rajasthan Royals suffered a catastrophic batting collapse to be bowled out for just 59 runs while chasing a target of 172. Buttler got out without scoring a run for the fourth time this season.

The match itself was a one-sided affair, with RCB ultimately thrashing RR by 112 runs. After choosing to bat first, RCB’s skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell’s 69-run partnership for the second wicket set the stage for a formidable total of 171 for five. RR’s bowlers struggled to contain RCB’s impressive batters and their task wasn’t made any easier by their woeful batting display.

RR’s collapse was swift, with their innings coming to a close at just 59 runs in 10.3 overs. Parnell was the pick of RCB’s bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/10, while Michael Bracewell and Karn Sharma picked up two wickets each.

The win for RCB sees them leapfrog RR in the points table, with both teams now on 12 points but RR having played one more game. Despite the result, RR will need to regroup and focus on their next match if they hope to remain in contention for the playoffs.

Response to the Record

If Buttler fails to score in the remaining two matches, he will set a new record of having the most ducks in a single season in IPL history.

RR coach Kumar Sangakkara expressed his disappointment with the batting performance and said his batters got carried away in the Powerplay, thinking they had to score too many runs. He added that unfortunately, the team got themselves out, and none of the batters looked to bid time.

“It was not about one individual; it’s about the whole batting unit, and we weren’t good enough today,” said Sangakkara.

While RR is still to play at least two matches in the season, the team will have to wait for other results to go their way to have any chance of making it to the playoffs. However, the team will have to play for pride and make sure they win their remaining matches.

In conclusion, Jos Buttler, who was in breathtaking form in IPL 2022, has struggled to maintain the same form this year.
