During the third T20I encounter between India and West Indies at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, spinner Kuldeep Yadav etched his name into the records by achieving a significant milestone in the first innings.

Kuldeep emerged as the quickest bowler for India to reach 50 wickets in men’s T20 Internationals (T20Is), accomplishing this feat in just 30 matches. Before this, the record was held by Yuzvendra Chahal, who achieved the mark in a slightly longer span. However, the overall record for the fastest 50 wickets in T20Is is still owned by Sri Lanka’s ‘mystery spinner’ Ajantha Mendis. Mendis accomplished this achievement in just 26 matches, making him the frontrunner. Mendis holds another record related to this milestone, reaching the 50-wicket mark in the fewest deliveries (600).

Kuldeep Yadav proved his mettle by securing three crucial wickets, while Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar each claimed one wicket for the Indian team. On the opposing side, Brandon King led the charge with a knock of 42 runs from 42 deliveries, while Rovman Powell played an indispensable inning of an unbeaten 40 runs off just 19 balls.

Opting to bat first, the West Indies managed a strong start as their openers, Kyle Mayers and Brandon King, consistently accumulated runs against the Indian bowlers. However, the spin prowess of Axar Patel soon proved too much for Mayers, resulting in his dismissal after contributing 25 runs in the eighth over. Johnson Charles then stepped up to the crease.

Subsequently, Kuldeep Yadav started to spin his web against the West Indies batters. He effectively dismissed Charles, who had scored 14 runs. This intervention was followed by Nicholas Pooran taking his place on the pitch. Nicholas Pooran, displaying impressive form, struck Kuldeep for 13 runs, including a boundary and a six.

In the 15th over of the match, Kuldeep’s mastery came to the forefront as he took down Pooran and the well-set batter, Brandon King. Pooran was sent back to the pavilion with 20 runs to his name, while King’s departure came after he had scored an impressive 42 runs. The 18th over saw Mukesh Kumar stepping up to the plate, taking the wicket of Shimron Hetmyer, who had contributed nine runs. Rovman Powell then seized the opportunity in the 19th over, smashing Arshdeep Singh for 17 runs through two mighty sixes.

In the final over, Powell continued his onslaught by striking a six off Mukesh Kumar’s delivery, enabling the West Indies to post a competitive total of 159/5 on the scoreboard.
Kuldeep Yadav’s remarkable performance came in a must-win scenario for India, showcasing his skill and contribution to the team’s success.

As the match unfolded, Kuldeep’s record-breaking accomplishment became a highlight of the game, serving as a testament to his talent and dedication.
