Bangladesh cricket fans have been eagerly awaiting their team’s one-off Test match against Ireland from April 4 to 8 in Dhaka. With a new squad announcement, the excitement levels have only gone up. However, there is a twist in the tale as star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and batsman Liton Das has been included in the squad despite their requests to join the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Shakib, the former captain of Bangladesh, will lead the side in the match, while Liton will be his deputy. Both players are a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad and had requested to be released from national duty after the recent T20 series against Ireland. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has included them in the Test squad, much to the delight of fans.

Details on the Players

The chief selector, Minhajul Abedin, confirmed that both players are available for the match, and that’s why they have been included in the squad. This decision is a significant boost for Bangladesh as Shakib and Liton are two of their most talented players.

Minhajul also stated that Zakir Hasan, who made a memorable debut against India in the last Test series, will miss out due to injury. However, Shadman Islam has been included as a replacement, while pacer Shoriful Islam has returned after recovering from injury.

Aside from this, it’s reported that Rejaur Rahman Raja, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Nasum Ahmed, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, and Anamul Haque Bijoy aren’t a part of the squad.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, Nazmul Hasan Papon, has confirmed that the IPL franchises are aware of the departure dates of the Bangladesh cricketers. “We will let them (the Bangladesh players) go to the IPL in accordance with what we informed the tournament about their availability. We haven’t changed our decision,” Papon said.

Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has already reached India to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the IPL.

The plane carrying the player took off at 8:00 am from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Mustafiz had returned to Dhaka from Chattogram on Friday night after Bangladesh’s third Twenty20 against Ireland the same day.

Delhi Capitals and Bangladesh Team Status

Delhi Capitals began their IPL campaign on Saturday against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow. The absence of Anrich Nortje, Delhi’s other marquee overseas pacer, who is playing for South Africa in their ongoing One-Day International (ODI) series against the Netherlands, may give Mustafiz a chance to feature in the match.

On the other hand, the Test match will be the first-ever between Bangladesh and Ireland. Ireland has already played three Tests, losing all of them. However, they put up a good fight in the recent ODI and T20 series against Bangladesh, where they won one match each.

All eyes will now be on the upcoming Test match as both teams will look to claim a historic victory. Bangladesh will be the favorites going into the match, but Ireland has shown that they are capable of causing an upset. Cricket fans can’t wait to see what happens in this exciting clash.
