Neymar to Miss Rest of Season Due to Ankle Surgery

Neymar, the Brazilian forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has been hit with the devastating news that he will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

The Brazilian forward was forced off during PSG’s 4-3 win against Lille in February, and an MRI scan revealed a sprained ankle. After further examination, the PSG medical staff recommended that he undergo surgery to repair the ankle ligament to avoid a recurrence of the problem.

The surgery will take place in Doha and will take between three to four months before he can return to training with the team.

This news is a huge blow to PSG, as they prepare for their Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich. Neymar has been in sensational form this season, scoring 18 goals and notching 17 assists in all competitions.

However, this is not the first time that the player has had issues with his ankle. Neymar has been plagued by foot injuries in the past, missing significant parts of the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons due to injury. He also suffered ankle ligament damage during the 2022 World Cup, forcing him to miss two games.

Statements on Neymar’s Injury

Despite the setback, Neymar has vowed to bounce back from the injury and make a big impact on his return. The 29-year-old posted a picture of himself looking glum on Instagram with the caption: “I’ll come back stronger.”

PSG boss Christophe Galtier was left fuming by the injury to one of his star players and blamed the club’s hectic schedule as one of the reasons behind Neymar’s injury issues. He said: “There are always reasons for injuries – the schedule, the sequence of games. It is never random. He (Neymar) is being examined to know the severity of his sprain.”

He also confirmed that the Brazilian would miss the Bayern Munich game, as well as the weekend’s fixture against Nantes.

Other News on Neymar

With Neymar’s injury history and his current contract situation, there are growing concerns that the Brazilian may have played his last game for PSG due to a reported feud with Kylian Mbappe. Despite having two years left on his contract, rumors of a summer departure are gaining momentum.

In February, reports said that PSG was preparing for Neymar’s exit at the end of the season. The Brazilian has seen his influence at the club dwindle following the decision to hand Mbappe a bumper contract and has clashed with the Frenchman.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi reportedly met with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly in February to discuss a potential transfer.

What’s Next for PSG

For now, PSG will have to rally together without their star striker as they prepare for the rest of the season. Neymar’s injury has left a huge void in their attacking line-up, but the team will be hoping that they can find the strength to push on without him.

PSG are currently eight points clear at the top of Ligue 1, and they face a tough task in the Champions League as they look to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Bayern Munich in the round-of-16 second leg on Wednesday.
