At 43 years of age, Srinivas Reddy will face a new and distinct challenge as he takes on the responsibility of guiding the Bangladesh senior national kabaddi team in the upcoming Asian Games in China.

Srinivas, previously the coach of the senior India men’s team that secured victory in the 2018 Dubai Masters, has been actively involved with the Bangladesh team during their preparatory activities, including a 45-day training camp in Kolhapur. Presently, he is providing mentorship to the team in Dhaka.

“Except for two who have figured in the last Asiad, the rest of the team comprises young and exciting talent. They are determined to script history this time around and win at least a bronze medal,” Srinivas said.

The Hyderabadi coach, who previously served as the head coach of the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) and is set to lead the Telugu Titans in the upcoming season, highlighted the positive atmosphere within the Bangladesh team. He pointed out their recent victory in the esteemed Banga Bandhu Cup, which featured 12 teams, as a significant achievement that has boosted their morale.

Srinivas is receiving assistance from another Indian, Chazu Ram from Haryana. Together, they are overseeing the training routines, which encompass conditioning sessions and strategic discussions in the mornings, followed by intensive training sessions in the evenings.

“We are also engaging the players in real match-competition, ensuring two matches every week – within the squad or with some other big teams in the domestic circuit,” the Union Bank of India officer said.

“Kabaddi, being the national sport in Bangladesh, the patronage is apparently on the higher side. In fact, the Sports Complex (residential) in Dhaka accommodates most of the athletes from other disciplines too like football, volleyball and other sports also,” said Srinivas.

“For me, I feel this is a continuation of the faith, having done well with the Bangladesh 2023 Junior World Cup squad. Yes, it will be exciting when Bangladesh takes on the big guns in the Asian Games including multiple times gold medallist India. But once we are on the court, like any pros, our target is to win,” said the optimistic coach.

Srinivas Reddy stands as one of the youngest coaches in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League. His coaching journey commenced by guiding the Korean men’s and women’s teams to bronze medals. From there, he expanded his coaching repertoire to include India Junior, India, and Australia in the international arena. In the Pro Kabaddi League, Srinivas has lent his expertise to teams such as Telugu Titans, Haryana Steelers, and his present team, the Jaipur Pink Panthers.

In the upcoming PKL season, Srinivas was also announced to be the head coach of the Telugu Titans. Despite boasting one of the most robust squads in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), the Telugu Titans have faced a disappointing streak of not qualifying for the playoffs in the past five seasons. Their struggles were evident as they ended up at the bottom of the points table in the last two seasons. These underwhelming performances have prompted the team’s owners to opt for a fresh approach, leading to the introduction of a new head coach.
