Team India’s WTC 2023-25 Schedule

Team India has found themselves in a familiar position as they reflect on their performances in the two editions of the World Test Championship (WTC) finals. Unfortunately, both times they ended up on the wrong side of the result, leaving their aspirations of capturing an ICC title unfulfilled since their last triumph in 2013.

The inaugural edition of the WTC final took place in 2021 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, where India faced off against New Zealand. However, it seemed that India was ill-prepared for the encounter as they were bowled out for 217 and 170 in their respective innings. The Kiwis, on the other hand, comfortably chased down the target, winning the match by eight wickets despite being all-out for 249 in their first innings.

Fast forward to the recently concluded 2023 WTC final held at The Oval, and a similar batting tale unfolded for India. After Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field under overcast conditions, Australia managed to post a challenging total of 469 runs. India’s batsmen, however, failed to rise to the occasion and could only muster scores of 296 and 234 in their innings. As a result, India succumbed to a defeat by a margin of 209 runs.

#TeamIndia fought hard but it was Australia who won the match.

Congratulations to Australia on winning the #WTC23 Final.

Looking ahead, Team India’s schedule for the 2023-25 WTC cycle offers them an opportunity to put the disappointment of their recent ICC heartbreaks behind them. Their next assignment will be a tour of the West Indies, where they will play two Tests. The matches are scheduled to take place from July 12 to July 16 in Dominica and from July 20 to July 24 in Trinidad.

Following the Caribbean tour, India will embark on a tour of South Africa in December 2023 to January 2024. The series will consist of two Tests, providing a chance for the Indian team to test their mettle against the Proteas in their own backyard.

As the new year kicks off in 2024, India will have a home advantage as they host England for a five-Test series in January and February. This highly anticipated clash will test the skills and resilience of both teams as they vie for supremacy in the Test arena.

Continuing with their home fixtures, India is scheduled to play two Tests against Bangladesh in September-October 2024. This series will serve as a platform for India to dominate against their subcontinental rivals and strengthen their position in the WTC standings.

Soon after, New Zealand will make their way to India for a three-Test series in October-November 2024. With the memories of their defeat against the Kiwis in the previous WTC final still fresh, India will be eager to turn the tables and assert their dominance on home soil.

The final leg of India’s WTC 2023-25 journey will take them to Australia for a high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Spanning from November 2024 to January 2025, this series promises to be a grueling test of skill, stamina, and mental fortitude for both teams. India’s previous triumph in Australia during the 2020-21 series will undoubtedly serve as a confidence booster as they aim to replicate their success in the WTC cycle.
