At the end of the match, the Barishals had amassed a huge score of 238 runs, while Rangpur Riders could only manage 171 runs after the end of 20 overs. In addition to winning by 67 runs, different records were rewritten by the Barishal team. During the match, Iftikhar Ahmed scored a century and stitched the highest partnership with skipper Shakib Al Hasan.
With their combined efforts, the duo had put on a partnership of 192 runs for the fifth wicket stand. It is the highest-ever in BPL history. Barishal also posted the second-highest BPL total with 73 coming off the last 3 overs.
Other than the record hits by Ahmed and Hasan, the highest that the batters managed to score for the Barishal team is 24 runs by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
While the Riders did not have the strongest batters compared to the Barishal team, they did have strong bowlers. When they won the toss and chose to field, the Riders’ bowlers had scored a total of seven wickets.
As for the Rider’s batters, the highest that they managed to score was 44 runs by Shamim Patwari. Aside from 33 runs scored by Mohammad Nawaz and 31 runs by Mohammad Naim, none of the other batters could score over 20 runs.
The Barishals may not have scored as many wickets, but they did manage to deny Rangpur’s chances of overcoming the target thanks to Mohammad Wasim and Kamrul Islam taking two wickets each.
This match marks the Fortune Barishal’s fourth win in the tournament. Recently, the Barishals went against the Dhaka Dominators (Minister Group Dhaka) for the 20th match of the tournament. The Barishal team won the match by 13 runs and continued the Dhaka Dominators’ losing streak.
So far in the tournament, the only team that the Fortune Barishal has lost against was the Sylhet Strikers. Other than these two teams, several teams have had many wins and losses.
Meanwhile, the Rangpur Riders will be playing the 21st match of the tournament against the Chattogram Challengers. It will be the first time the two teams will play against each other in the 2023 BPL. Currently, the Chattogram Challengers are 6th in the standings with four points and a net run rate of -0.802. The last team that the Challengers went against was the Khulna Tigers, and they lost by 7 wickets with 4 balls remaining.
The teams will be playing against each other until the final four teams are determined for the playoffs, which will happen on February 12. Starting on January 23 to 24 will be the 21st to 24th matches of the tournament. There are 42 matches before the semi-finalists are confirmed for the tournament.
