The West Indies cricket team is gearing up for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier with a three-game ODI series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Sharjah at the beginning of next month.

This marks the first bilateral series between the two teams and is a crucial preparation for the West Indies as they aim to earn a spot in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at the end of this year.

The West Indies, two-time World Cup champions, finished outside the automatic qualification spots for this year’s tournament during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. Therefore, they can only secure a place at the 2023 event with a top-two finish at the qualifier in Zimbabwe during June and July.

The West Indies will face off against another team featuring in the qualifier, the UAE, who earned their place at the event through a well-deserved second-placed finish at the recent ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoff.

Director of Cricket for the West Indies, Jimmy Adams, believes that this three-match series will provide excellent preparation for his side ahead of the qualifier tournament. Adams also looks forward to working with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) in the coming years to arrange future tours.

The three fixtures will all take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, with both teams then flying to Zimbabwe for the start of the qualifying tournament on June 18.

Adams stated, “This is our first-ever bilateral tour against the UAE, and we are pleased to have agreed on this historic three-match ODI Series as it will provide a good opportunity for our players to get some preparation ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.”

“It will also allow those players not going to Zimbabwe to get some valuable experience at the international level in foreign conditions, which would be hugely beneficial to their growth and development. We are happy to work closely with the ECB to arrange the three matches and see this as a partnership that can grow in the future.”

Cricket is eagerly anticipating these matches, which will showcase the skill and talent of both teams. With a spot at the Cricket World Cup at stake, the West Indies are determined to put their best foot forward and emerge victorious in this historic series. The UAE will also be looking to put in a strong performance as they prepare for the qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.

Cricket enthusiasts can catch all the action live on television or through online streaming services. The series promises to be an exciting spectacle, with high-quality cricket on display and plenty of drama and suspense.

The eyes of the cricketing world will be on Sharjah as the West Indies and UAE lock horns in this historic three-match series, paving the way for what promises to be a thrilling ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

Scheduled to take place in Zimbabwe in June and July 2023, the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup Qualifier will decide the final two participants for the 2023 World Cup. This event is the culmination of the 2023 Cricket World Cup qualification process and marks the first time since the 1979 ICC Trophy that the Qualifier has taken place in the same year as the World Cup.
