Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently announced a significant increase in salaries and match fees for women cricketers under their central contract. The decision was made during the eighth board meeting of the board of directors in the current term, held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium premises.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan revealed the new salary structure, stating that the salary cap for women cricketers under the central contract will now be set at Tk1,00,000, with a minimum salary of Tk50,000. This marks a considerable rise from the previous salary cap of Tk80,000, with a minimum of Tk25,000. The decision aims to provide better financial support and recognition to the talented women cricketers representing Bangladesh.

Currently, there are 25 women cricketers contracted with the BCB, and the increase in salaries will significantly improve their earning potential and help them focus on their cricketing careers. Additionally, the match fee for women cricketers playing for the “A” team has been raised to Tk1,50,000, further enhancing their incentives and rewards.

Apart from the salary adjustments, BCB has also emphasized the importance of strengthening cricketing infrastructure in the country. The board has decided to build new stadiums to accommodate domestic leagues, promoting the growth and development of cricket at the grassroots level. The move is aimed at decentralizing the sport and expanding its reach to different regions of Bangladesh.

In line with this objective, the BCB has approved the establishment of five ad-hoc regional committees in Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, Rangpur, and Rajshahi. This step will facilitate the administration and organization of cricket activities in these regions, ensuring better opportunities for local talent to flourish. Furthermore, plans are underway to form committees for Khulna and Barisal as well, indicating the board’s commitment to providing equal opportunities across the country.

The recent board meeting also resulted in several other key decisions to enhance the cricketing landscape in Bangladesh. Firstly, the purchase of land in Pubail, Gazipur, and Purbachal, Narayanganj for developing cricket grounds was approved. Additionally, the board intends to renovate the inner and outer grounds of Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah to make them playable.

Furthermore, the BCB has given the green light for the installation of new and advanced indoor cricket practice turfs at existing indoor centers across the country, including Chittagong and Sylhet. This move highlights the board’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art training facilities to cricketers at all levels.

In an effort to improve the broadcasting and media coverage of cricket in Bangladesh, the board has initiated the process of obtaining a license for BCB TV. This step will help promote the sport and increase its visibility, allowing fans to have greater access to live matches, analysis, and cricket-related content.

In addition to these infrastructure and broadcasting initiatives, the BCB has also taken into account the welfare of players. Apart from the salary increase for women cricketers, the board has approved salary contracts and enhancements for 77 first-class cricketers, ensuring a more stable and rewarding career path for them.

Moreover, the BCB Regional Cricket Association Guidelines-2022 were approved during the meeting, further streamlining the operations and administration of regional cricket. The endorsement of Regional Ad-hoc Committees in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rangpur, and Rajshahi has been granted, strengthening the organizational structure and governance of cricket in these areas.

As part of the overall development of cricket in Bangladesh, the match fees for the Bangladesh A Team have also been increased for four-day, one-day, and T20 formats. This step aims to motivate and incentivize players in the A Team, preparing them for future international representation.
