In a thrilling encounter between the Gujarat Titans and SunRisers Hyderabad, the Gujarat Titans suffered a dramatic collapse in the final over, courtesy of the exceptional bowling performance by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The Hardik Pandya-led side had seemed to be in complete control for the majority of their innings after choosing to bat first. Shubman Gill played an outstanding innings, registering his maiden IPL century, while Sai Sudharshan also contributed with a quickfire knock. However, the Titans’ dominance came to a screeching halt in the last over when Bhuvneshwar Kumar showcased his brilliance.

The defending champions got off to a strong start with Gill and Sudharshan smashing boundaries at will. The pair added a remarkable 147 runs for the second wicket, taking the Gujarat Titans to 65 for one in just six overs. Gill was particularly aggressive, displaying his attacking prowess by repeatedly finding the fence. His ferocious hitting continued as he struck two consecutive fours off SunRisers’ skipper Aiden Markram in the seventh over and followed it up with two more boundaries in the next over, bowled by Markande.

By the 10th over, the Gujarat Titans had crossed the 100-run mark with Gill leading the charge. The duo of Gill and Sudharshan maintained a blistering run rate of over 10 runs per over until the 14th over, providing a strong foundation for their team. However, Sudharshan’s departure in the 15th over, caught by T Natarajan off the bowling of Marco Jansen, triggered a mini-collapse for the Titans.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, failed to make a substantial contribution as he was dismissed cheaply, handing Bhuvneshwar his second wicket of the day. The troubles continued for the Titans as David Miller fell in the following over while attempting a big shot. Rahul Tewatia became Bhuvneshwar’s third victim, and suddenly, the Titans found themselves losing wickets at regular intervals.

As the innings reached its climax, the Gujarat Titans’ hopes of posting a massive total were dashed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s exceptional final over. On the first ball, Gill was caught out, denying him the opportunity to carry his bat through the innings. Rashid Khan departed on the very next delivery without troubling the scorers, as Bhuvneshwar missed out on a hat-trick. However, he made amends by affecting a team hat-trick, getting Noor Ahmad run out with a brilliant display of fielding. On the fifth ball of the over, Bhuvneshwar completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Mohammed Shami.

Ultimately, the Gujarat Titans finished their innings at 188 for nine, falling short of the 190-run mark they had looked set to surpass comfortably. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s exceptional spell of 5 for 30 in four overs proved to be the turning point in the match, as he single-handedly dismantled the Titans’ lower order in the final over.

While the Titans suffered a late collapse, Shubman Gill’s breathtaking century will be remembered as one of the standout performances of the tournament. His aggressive strokeplay and ability to find boundaries at regular intervals showcased his immense talent and potential as a top-class batsman. Despite the loss, the Gujarat Titans can take solace in Gill’s brilliant knock and look to bounce back stronger in their upcoming matches.
