Arjun Tendulkar Sets Unique Record for IPL
It was an exciting day for cricket fans as the Mumbai Indians took on the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. However, the Mumbai Indians had a surprise when their captain, Rohit Sharma, couldn’t play because of a stomach bug. So, Suryakumar Yadav took over as captain, and this gave Arjun Tendulkar, who had been waiting for two years, a chance to make his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians.
Arjun has been a part of the Mumbai Indians’ squad since IPL 2022 but hadn’t got a chance to play earlier. He was bought for a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs during the IPL 2022 mega auction, and Mumbai Indians retained him ahead of the IPL 2023 auctions for Rs. 30 lakhs.
This debut also marked a historic occasion as he became the first father-son duo with Sachin Tendulkar to feature for the same franchise in IPL history.

In a ceremony held before the match, Arjun received his first IPL cap from the captain of Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma.
Another Record Made
Arjun was not the only one making history for the IPL in the match between the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Duan Jansen, a South African pacer bought by Mumbai, also made his debut for the team, becoming the first set of brothers to play in the IPL for different franchises. Duan’s brother, Marco Jansen, plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
While Marco has already represented South Africa in the senior national team, Duan is yet to make his mark at the international level. Duan has 36 wickets in 20 first-class matches, 19 wickets in 16 List-A matches, and 24 wickets in 31 T20s.
So far, his brother Marco played a total of 12 IPL matches and has taken 13 wickets with an economy rate of 8.27.
Team Status
The Mumbai Indians had an advantage coming into the game after winning their previous match against the Delhi Capitals. In contrast, the Kolkata Knight Riders were coming into this game after suffering a defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 23 runs in their last match.
At the toss, Suryakumar shared his strategy, saying, “Will love to bowl first, the wicket looks dry. The ball comes onto the bat nicely later. Rohit is out, he has a stomach bug. Time to put up a good show. We are going with one change, Duan Jansen comes in, rest all is the same.”
What Happened in the Match
Although Mumbai Indians lost the toss and were asked to field first, Arjun Tendulkar made an impressive debut by claiming his first IPL wicket of Kolkata Knight Riders Nitish Rana. The 23-year-old’s pace could be quite useful to the team, given his previous performances in the domestic circuit.
Although the match did not end in Mumbai Indians’ favor, with Kolkata Knight Riders winning by 7 wickets, Arjun Tendulkar and Sachin Tendulkar will always be remembered for their unique contribution to the IPL history.
