Bangladesh’s cricket team has included a new uncapped pace bowler, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, in their squad for the upcoming three-match series against Ireland. The series is set to take place in Chelmsford from May 9.

Mrittunjoy gained the selectors’ attention with his performance for Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League. He also played well for Bangladesh A on their tour to the West Indies. The left-arm pace bowler is known for his ability to swing the ball and can also bat down the order.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief selector, Minhajul Abedin, said, “We have picked Mrittunjoy as he could swing the ball and can be effective in English conditions.”

Unfortunately, Taskin Ahmed was ruled out of the one-off Ireland Test due to an injury to his left side, meaning he also misses the upcoming ODI series. However, this opens up an opportunity for other players to showcase their talents.

Other Team Additions

On the other hand, the Bangladesh team is currently in great form, and the management has said that several players will be tried and tested during the home and away series against Ireland. The squad features a mix of experienced players and up-and-coming talents, including Yasir Ali, who recently made a return to the squad, and Towhid Hridoy and Rony Talukdar.

The squad also sees the return of pace bowler Shoriful Islam and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. However, another left-arm spinner, Nasum Ahmed, failed to retain his spot in the team despite doing reasonably well against Ireland previously.

Bangladesh will welcome back Litton Das and Mustafizur Rahman, who is currently playing in the Indian Premier League, before the start of the tour. The team is also being prepared by a foreign coaching panel headed by Chandika Hathurusingha.

Statements on Upcoming Matches

The upcoming Ireland series is an important stepping stone for Bangladesh as they prepare for the Asia Cup and World Cup. The BCB president Nazmul Hassan had previously stated that the squad for the Asia Cup will be one for the World Cup, so performances in the upcoming matches will be closely monitored.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin has emphasized that everyone is being looked at in equal measure, and they will prepare the best possible side for the Asia Cup. According to reports, Mahmudullah Riyad, a veteran player, has also been left out of the squad, but his domestic performances are being closely monitored.

The team management is confident in their experienced side’s ability to adjust to conditions, and they are hopeful that they will be able to perform well.

The hosts, Ireland, will be looking to sweep away Bangladesh as this would secure them a spot in the next World Cup in India later this year. If they do not manage to do so, they will have to play in the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe in June-July.

Bangladesh and Ireland will play their next two games on May 12 and 14, respectively. The Bangladesh team will be hoping to continue their good form and secure victory in the series.
