Something truly remarkable happened in women’s cricket as the Bangladesh team secured their very first One Day International (ODI) win against the strong Indian team last Sunday. This win gave the team a much-needed boost as the Bangladesh Tigresses aim to seal the ODI series against India. The upcoming match will be held at the well-known Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.

All-rounder Lata Mondal, a key figure in the Bangladesh squad, expressed her belief that securing the series win against India would be an extraordinary turning point for women’s cricket in Bangladesh. This triumph holds great significance, as the Indian team currently holds the fourth position in the ODI rankings, two places above the Tigresses. Lata emphasized the team’s diligent efforts and their long-standing desire for a favorable outcome, stating that a strong performance on the field would lead to a well-deserved victory. Eager to achieve their goal, the team aims to deliver their best cricket, drawing inspiration from the comfort of their home ground.

“Obviously, it will be a [turning point if we win the series]. We really work hard and have been waiting for a good result for a long time. So, if we can do well on the field then the result will be in our favor. Who doesn’t want to win the series as we will try to play our best cricket and follow the process. We will try to play our best as we will be playing at our home ground,” Lata told the media yesterday.

Lata further emphasized that the Tigresses intend to capitalize on the momentum gained from their victories in the final T20I and the first ODI matches against India. Recognizing India as a formidable opponent, she attributed their success to their consistent display of quality cricket, outperforming the Indian side in recent matches.

“India are a very good side. Since we won the last T20I and also the first ODI, naturally we are doing things right and have been playing better cricket than them,” Lata said.

In the first ODI, pacemaker Marufa Akter emerged as the star performer, scalping an impressive four wickets and contributing significantly to Bangladesh’s victory by restricting India to a meager total of 113 runs. As the second ODI approaches, Marufa is expected to play a pivotal role once again, employing her lethal bowling prowess to challenge the Indian batting lineup.

While the bowling department has been commendable, the Bangladesh team acknowledges that their batting performance remains an area of concern. Lata, who did not participate in the first ODI, acknowledged the team’s collective efforts to enhance their batting skills and expressed their determination to deliver a superior batting display in the upcoming match.

On the other hand, the Indian team, renowned for their recent triumphs against Sri Lanka and England in bilateral ODI series, is eager to rebound from their unexpected loss to Bangladesh. Fueled by their prior successes, the Indian side aims to secure a victory in the second ODI, ensuring the series remains alive and presenting a thrilling challenge to their opponents.

Cricket fans are excitedly waiting for the second ODI match between these two talented teams, set to begin at 9:30 am local time. It’s going to be a thrilling showdown as both sides compete for victory and try to make their mark in women’s cricket history. The outcome of this match holds immense importance for the players, the teams, and the growth of women’s cricket.
